"Life as a judge clearly made UN envoy Richard Goldstone a poor judge. Rumors are that Goldstone only retracted his findings once Israeli President Shimon Peres agreed to give him a tour of Israel and a quiet share of a very successful felafel stand, which he chose over a share of an Israeli hi-tech arms manufacturer." ~ Yasha Harari

Thanks to the likes of Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant, voice tech has seen a huge rise in the past decade. But the voice assistant industry has yet to reach its full potential and it can become an integral part of many applications we use every day. In the next few years, we will see the advent of new markets, applications, and platforms for voice assistants that will go beyond the reach of the incumbents, says Nick MacShane, Founder and Senior Managing Director at Progress Partners, a merchant bank providing M&A, capital raise, and SPAC advisory for emerging tech and…

How Bo Burnham’s Jeff Bezos song became a Gen Z anthem about disaster capitalism

January 12th is one of the most important days of the year. That’s right, it’s the birthday of Jeff Bezos. While ingrates mark the milestone by insolently asking the entrepreneur to stop union-busting, we want to celebrate the joyous occasion with a song: Bo Burnham’s “Bezos I.” The lyrics tell the touching tale of Jeffrey’s selfless mission to become a tech oligarch. The track was a highlight of Burnham’s Netflix special, Inside, but its legacy didn’t end there. In the months after the show’s release, the tender tribute to Bezos was reappropriated on TikTok as an ode to disaster capitalism. Workers…

Car manufacturing in the UK stalled dramatically last year. The head of the industry trade body described the situation as the “toughest in decades”, and the numbers certainly back up his claim. The latest car registration figures show that 2021 was up just 1% on a COVID-ravaged 2020 – and production actually went into reverse gear. In November 2021, UK car production dropped by almost 29%, the fifth consecutive month of output falling, and the worst since the mid-1980s. October’s figures had been the worst since the 1950s. Overall, car making up to November 2021 was 6.2% below that of 2020, with 797,261 cars made…
