Google is shutting down Allo, to no one’s surprise

As we’ve all been expecting over the past year, Google is killing off its Allo cross-platform messaging service. The app – which first arrived in September 2016 with a bunch of clever features like one-tap smart replies, Google Assistant support, and the ability to share web search results in conversations – will be shut down next March. Google paused development on Allo eight months ago, noting that it hadn’t gained the sort of traction the company was hoping for. After ending its life entirely, the company will focus its energy on building Messages, the RCS-capable app that adds modern functionality…

Tumblr’s porn ban slams the door on women and other marginalized communities

After graphic images of child sex abuse appeared on Tumblr in November, the app was quickly removed from Apple’s App store (it remained on Google Play). And rightfully so. Child sex abuse imagery has no place online, and Apple was well within its rights to stop distributing an app containing it. OnePlus gets first dibs on the Snapdragon 855 with new phone line

It was just yesterday that Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon 855 processor, but today we learned the first company that will use it: OnePlus. That’ssomething of a surprise.
