Weather alert: be on the lookout for flying pigs. Google‘s new AI Platform looks to make good on the company’s promise to democratize machine learning. Between developing weapons platforms for the military and censored search engines for China, we forgot it was even capable of doing things that were good for humanity. At its Google Next event today the Mountain View company announced AI Platform, its new cloud-based end-to-end solution for building, training, and running machine learning models. This is for enterprise, so it’s mostly aimed at data scientists. We like it because it seems like AI Platform was built…

Long-serving exchange Coinbase has announced the launch of a cryptocurrency debit card for its UK customers. The company says it’s also looking to launch its debit card in other markets over the coming months, but did not to provide a specific timeline. “The UK is a great first market for the Coinbase card with its thriving fintech ecosystem and consumer willingness to try new ideas. The Coinbase Card will initially be available in the UK with a view to going live, in the coming months, across all European markets in which Coinbase operates,” Zeeshan Feroz, Coinbase UK CEO, told Hard Fork. Unlike other existing cards,…

A new survey of American teenagers reveals they’re turning more and more to digital stores for their games. The survey comes from Piper Jaffray’s annual Taking Stock With Teens survey, in which 8,000 teens detailed their spending habits and their online lives, including which brands they prefer, what social media they’re likely to turn to, and, of course, how and where they buy their video games. Among the teenage boys who responded, Piper Jaffray found…

The Samsung Galaxy A80 takes selfies in a way that’s totally insane, but completely inspired

At an event in Bangkok, Samsung today announced a swathe of new phones for its mid-range ‘A’ line. These middle-of-the-road phones are decidedly conservative in nature. They seldom break ground, instead choosing to offer respectable specifications without breaking the bank. I said “seldom,” because the Samsung Galaxy A80 bucks that trend in the most spectacular way possible, and it’s all thanks to the phone’s impressive rotating camera mechanism. This allows users to take selfies using their phone’s array of rear-facing cameras, while also enjoying a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display that’s completely notch-free. Here’s how it works. A bit like…
