betas
Tomorrow, Amazon will launch its original comedy series Betas on Prime Instant Video in the UK. It’s been a long time coming, given the show premiered in the US last November, but Amazon is trying to make amends by releasing all 11 episodes from season one simultaneously. While Netflix pioneered this strategy for its own original shows, including House of Cards, Lilyhammer and Orange is the New Black, it’s not one that we’ve seen Amazon adopt so far. When Betas debuted in the US, only the first three episodes were immediately available to Amazon customers. A single episode was then…

Did you know Mac OS X helps you optimize your home Wi-Fi network? Here’s how it works

This weekend I visited my parents. As these things tend to go, they had a list of things that bothered them about their computers. I like helping them and ended up moving my mother’s blog to a new host, and optimizing their Wi-Fi network. However, that last task was frustrating at first because I didn’t really know what tools to use. I Googled around a bit and found some very expensive tools, but I also uncovered a great and useful one hidden away in Mac OS X itself. In the past it would suffice to look at the AirPort symbol…

Dinosaur
Over the past year or so, Belgium-based Paddy Donnelly and Alain Hufkens have launched the kiddie-centric Wee Rockets and Wee Subs for iOS. All this before they recently rolled out a simple app to help developers track all their downloads and revenues. Now, the duo that operate under the Wee Taps moniker, have rolled out Sleepasaurus, a dinosaur-themed sleep trainer for kids with a dislike for staying in bed. When it’s time for the land of nod, your young one chooses one of seven dinosaur sleeping buddies, and then sprinkles some magic dust upon it to send it to sleep….

Amazon has announced something that we thought could be on the horizon: it’s increasing the price of its Prime and Student Prime subscriptions in the US. The company hinted during a recent earnings call that the price could be set to rise – and today we have confirmation. It’s the first price rise in nine years for Amazon Prime – which nets subscribers access to on-demand streaming, free two-day delivery and e-book rentals – and will now cost $99 per year, up from $79. It’s a slightly smaller price increase for students, up to $49 per year from $39 previously….

London 2012 - London Transport
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, wants the capital city to also be the ‘tech capital of the world’, he announced today, without spelling out exactly how this would be achieved. Talking at an event in London’s Shoreditch area, Johnson said: There is nowhere to rival London for tech firms to thrive and grow – we have the talent, the investors, and the entrepreneurial spirit. Our tech offer now spans the capital in its entirety, from Tottenham to Croydon and from Wembley to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. I want London’s world-class tech sector to be as well known around the globe as our tourism, arts and financial services –…
