This tool lets you check if a website is blocked in China

China‘s Great Firewall just got higher as Wikipedia has been added to Beijing’s no-no list. The government hasn’t explained why it’s blocking the free online encyclopedia, but frankly it’s not surprising. Shutting down a platform that has endless information makes sense if the mere presence of Winnie the Pooh was too much for President Xi Jinping and his crew to handle. But what other websites are currently blocked? Well, that’s where Comparitech’s tool comes in. You can use it to see whether a certain domain has been blocked in China, and in which areas of the country it’s currently unavailable.…

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has just announced that it now offers trading in over 100 countries, after adding support for a further 50 countries. It’s also doubling down on its stablecoin, making it available in 85 countries. In an announcement published earlier today, Coinbase revealed that crypto-to-crypto trading is now available in 85 countries after expanding global support for its proprietary stablecoin. This expansion goes for both Coinbase and Coinbase Pro. This time last year, Coinbase was available in 32 countries; with today’s news, the cryptocurrency exchange is now available in 103 countries. The 50 new countries are now able to…

6 surprising ways robots (and their anuses) are helping people live and work

May14

How many times in the past week do you think your life was affected by a robot? Unless you have a robot vacuum cleaner, you might say that robots had no real impact on your life. But you’re wrong. Let’s take a look at some of the ways robots are being used right now but that you probably have no idea about. So what is a robot? Before we start, we need to define what actually is a robot. There is no official definition of what constitutes a robot, but many roboticists (like me) consider it to be a machine…

Samsung wants to blockchainify its budget phones

Despite the lackluster launch of the latest Samsung Galaxy S10’s cryptocurrency and blockchain features, the Korean tech giant is reportedly looking to trickle the technology down to its budget smartphones. In an announcement yesterday, senior managing director of Product Strategy at Samsung’s Wireless division, Chae Won-cheol, said “We will lower barriers to new experiences by gradually expanding the number of Galaxy models that support blockchain functions,” Business Korea reports. It’s also reported that Samsung will expand the availability of its blockchain services after Korea, the United States, and Canada. Don’t hold your breath Rumors that Samsung was working on cryptocurrency…

Lenovo unveils the world’s first ‘foldable PC’ and I’m actually kinda excited

Foldable phones have been all the rage this year, so we shouldn’t perhaps be surprised that someone would up the ante soon. Lenovo showed off its upcoming foldable PC at its Accelerate conference today. The device will fall under its premium Thinkpad X1 line, and will launch next year. The device will have a 13.3-inch 2K OLED display made in partnership with LG, and will be powered by an Intel processor. Right now the company showed off just an early prototype, and we don’t know the full spec sheet, yet. A hands-on by Engadget shows that Lenovo has created a special hinge to…
