President Trump is expected to sign an executive order this week that would ban US companies from using equipment from firms that pose a national security risk. If signed, the order would all but block Huawei from the United States. The order isn’t expected to name individual companies, although Huawei is clearly the one that will spring to mind for most. It’s the world’s largest telecom supplier and number two smartphone maker, behind only Samsung. Netflix to invade E3 (and it might be bringing new games with it)

Netflix revealed today that it was going to host a panel at E3, of all things. It’s not-so-subtly hinting at an interest in games, which it’s been developing for several months despite outwardly expressing the opposite. If nothing else, I’d be curious to see what its idea of a Netflix show-to-video game adaptation would look like, given its recent ventures in interactive film. The NX on Netflix Twitter account, which promotes the platform’s fantasy and sci-fi titles, did that thing where it tweets at another verified company account, in this case the E3 account. No, end-to-end encryption isn’t a marketing gimmick

There’s bad takes, and then there’s bad takes. An example of the latter comes from Bloomberg Opinion columnist Leonid Bershidsky, who thinks that today’s WhatsApp security woes proves that end-to-end encryption is “a gimmick” and “largely pointless.” WhatsApp is one of the largest messaging apps around. To put Bershidsky’s comments in context, earlier today, it transpired that it was possible to use specially-weaponized phone calls in order to install malware on a target’s phone.
