Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google appear
Google today announced the latest update to its Glass project, adding two new features for those who have shelled out $1,500 for the wearable device. The new additions include SMS for iPhone and Calendar Glassware. The former means iOS users can now finally receive texts from their friends on Glass, just like their Android counterparts have been able to for months. To take advantage, head to your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings and turn on “Show Notifications” for your paired Glass. When you receive a new text message, it will appear as a notification on Glass. Unfortunately, Google says you won’t be…

Ryan Hoover is the co-creator of Product Hunt and EIR at Tradecraft. Visit his blog to read more about startups and product design. Last week I created mockups of an improved comment system for Product Hunt. The design certainly wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t even complete. But I shared them anyway and am glad I did. Within 24 hours I received over 50 annotated pieces of feedback from the community. I quickly discovered what they liked: Found unclear: Concerning: Broken: And best of all, new ideas to make Product Hunt even better: I began to wonder why more startups aren’t doing this. The benefits of building in public…

Microsoft and Motorola Solutions today announced a patent licensing agreement that will allow the companies to share technology. While the duo didn’t reveal too many details, the deal does provide worldwide coverage under Microsoft’s patent portfolio for Motorola Solutions’ devices running Android and Chrome OS. It’s worth emphasizing that Motorola Solutions is a separate company from that of Motorola Mobility, a mobile company Google recently acquired and is now selling to Lenovo. Motorola Solutions provides communication solutions and services for enterprise and government customers. “Microsoft and Motorola Solutions share a respect for intellectual property and a commitment to fair and…

Flickr shows it could still be the ultimate home for storing and sharing photos

US-IT-YAHOO-TUMBLR-FLICKR
While I was studying photography in college, Flickr was the best place to store, organize and share photos. Almost everyone with a DSLR used it, poring over photosets and meticulously crafted albums. As smartphones grew in popularity, casual and professional photographers alike adopted mobile-centric apps such as Instagram. Flickr was slow to recognize this trend, however, and its relevancy slowly faded as the volume of photos captured, edited and shared from mobile devices grew. I’ve always wanted a superlative service that offers the best of both. A place where I can store and share all of my favorite photos, regardless of…

Why your favorite TV shows keep breaking the Internet

Franklin Morris is a senior writer for Rackspace. If you were hoping to catch the recent premiere of “Game of Thrones” on HBO Go, you were likely met instead with the “spinning wheel of non-loading hopelessness and despair”—a name some customers have bestowed upon HBO’s error message. It was a case of history repeating itself. Just a few weeks earlier, “True Detective” took down the network’s streaming service for the entire evening of its highly anticipated finale. In each case fans of these shows took to the Twittersphere to voice their dissatisfaction. HBO and its parent company Time Warner issued apologies….
