Lindsay Comstock is a New York-based writer, photographer, and editor. Her work has appeared in American Photo, PDN, Rangefinder, and in her own image-based projects. This post was originally published on the Shutterstock blog and has been adapted with permission. With much of the Northern Hemisphere was blanketed in snow and chilly temperatures stifling outdoor movement this winter, these five artists reignite the promise of warmer, more flower-filled days. From seamless floral backgrounds and bursting watercolors to a blooming psychedelic digital display and photos of flowers suspended in ice, your springtime inspiration is here. Lola Tsvetaeva Lola Tsvetaeva | Seamless vector background with flowers and leaves…

telephone
The conference call technology industry is lucrative but increasingly-saturated, with heavyweights such as WebEx and ‘newcomers’ such as MeetingBurner and Speek all vying for a piece of the pie. But that isn’t deterring others from entering the space. Confer Call is a Netherlands-based startup that’s bringing its own take on what an online conference call platform should look like. Or, at least, providing an alternative to the mélange of services already out there. While we already picked the winner from our Boost early stage startup program at TNW Europe 2014 last week, Confer Call was another participant with potential. Confer…

Keyboard
The stock keyboard on Android isn’t too bad, but sometimes you might find that the layout and sheer size means that it ends up taking up a lot of space on your screen. If that’s the case, then you’ll probably want to check out Minuum, an alternative Android keyboard that lets you shrink the entire thing down to just one row of letters without giving up any of the core functionality you’d expect from a keyboard. Released in beta last year, and finally graduating to a full release in March this year, we thought it high-time to take a closer…

England's national soccer team captain Bobby Moore
The 2014 FIFA World Cup is fast approaching and to celebrate, the BBC will broadcast five classic football matches from past tournaments featuring some of the home nations. The fixtures include the iconic 1966 final between England and West Germany, as well as the quarter-final in 1986 that featured Argentinian Diego Maradona’s infamous ‘Hand of God’ goal. Scots will be treated to their 1978 group match against the Netherlands, while Northern Ireland is represented with a Spain group tie from the 1982 tournament. Rounding out the shortlist is another England clash, this time against Germany in the 1990 semi-final. All of the…

badger
Digital rights organization EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) is tackling advertisers that track people’s web activities after it launched an extension for Google’s Chrome browser which blocks out unscrupulous online advertising techniques. The alpha version of Privacy Badger, as the extension is called, was released today. While EFF says it has a few bugs to iron out, the software essentially sits quietly in your browser monitoring third parties that interact with you while you view websites. “If a third-party server appears to be tracking you without permission, by using uniquely identifying cookies to collect a record of the pages you visit across multiple…
