Kes Thygesen is the co-founder and head of product at RolePoint,a recruitment platform where the pipeline is driven by high-quality employee referrals. Big data. You’ve heard about it. You’ve read about it. Maybe you’re building tools that are shaping it. No matter if you’ve taken advantage of it or not, big data has the power to let you analyze success with more accuracy. However, can big data predict the success of your startup – more specifically the success of your employees and how they play into your growth? Absolutely. Larger players like Xerox have already used big data to cut employee…

Corroborating a tweet published by @evleaks, Motorola has updated its Moto Maker site with mention of a new handset called the Moto X+1. This is presumed to be a successor to its flagship Moto X smartphone, which Motorola plans to release in “late summer“. The tidbit was spotted by MobiFlip, but unfortunately there’s little else to report here. There are no images or specs to dive into, and clicking the ‘Moto X+1 Details’ button simply triggers a broken link. Even so, its appearance suggests that the device will be unveiled fairly shortly. Motorola issued an invite yesterday for a press event…

Just a couple months after launching, mobile-focused event planning platform Eventjoy has decided to drop the fees from its ticketing service and pursue alternative monetization options instead. Coinciding with the pricing change, Eventjoy has also resigned its website. Previously, the startup took a 2 percent cut + $0.99 per ticket for paid events. Co-founder Todd Goldberg told TNW that Eventjoy’s goal is to always keep its core experience free while pursuing premium services, like event promotion and commerce, in order to monetize. The company is counting on the possibility that the power of mobile will open up new opportunities for organizers…

A Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) is to be opened in Miami, the first of its kind in the US, later this spring. The building will be kitted out with the latest technology, and support students and startups in the local area. Miami was chosen because of its close proximity to Latin America; Microsoft hopes to connect the city with key communities in the region. The new MIC will support students with trained specialists and an open-plan area where they can ask questions about software and other technologies used on their course. It’ll also provide startups with access to Microsoft tools…
