Tom More is CEO and Founder of Slidely, a popular creator of Slideshows, videos and imagery. A picture is worth a thousand words, and when it comes to capturing your audience’s attention, you want to take full advantage of every chance to communicate your message. Short attention spans have made lengthy explanations less effective – so how do you keep interest? Show, don’t tell.  Use effective visuals to power up your communications, boost engagement, and spark up your social media. Here’s why you must integrate visual content into your marketing strategy and communications. An apple a day helps memory stay If…

For a while now multiple sources show that tablet shipment growth is slowing, and the latest finding from NPD shows that the trend could be on its way into the negative. April 2014 was the first month to see tablet panel shipments decline year-over-year. More specifically, the firm’s monthly tablet PC panel shipment tracking has shown shipments of 25.3 million in April 2013, followed by a 4 percent drop to 24.2 million in April 2014. This is better illustrated in the graph below: This is the result of the tablet PC market maturing, even though it appears to be happening…

Diminishing returns. With each passing year, we’re seeing smaller leaps in high-end smartphone performance. While faster chipsets and larger batteries are always welcome, it’s becoming ever more difficult to discern the differences in everyday performance. The low-end market, meanwhile, is on the verge of a tectonic shift. As smartphone components fall in price, manufacturers are able to equip their cheapest handsets with increasingly powerful hardware. That’s where the new Nokia Lumia 630 comes in. It seeks to betray its £89.95 (or roughly $151) price-tag with respectable specs and Nokia’s impeccable design language. In the process, it’s leading the charge for…

Jonatan Littke is the CEO and co-founder of Lookback. When WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook, there were eight million WhatsApp users for every employee. Eight million. Traditionally in business, when you scale up your company, you grow your number of employees along with your number of customers. If Target opens up a new store, it will hire more people to interact with new customers, listening to their needs and desires. This is not the case anymore. With digital businesses, the norm – not the exception – is to grow as large as possible with as few employees as possible. Analytics doesn’t answer the why To make sense of all these…

Facebook has announced a new feature coming to its mobile apps which identify TV shows and music playing in the background so that users can more easily share the song or show they are listening to or watching. Announced today in a blog post, the company said the feature will be available in the iOS and Android apps in “the coming weeks”. Essentially, the opt-in feature allows the app to listen for content using the microphone to identify music, movies or TV shows playing in the background using a Shazam-style matching system, and it’s active any time you’re writing a status update. If it…
