Pixar offers RenderMan free to non-commercial users and drops price to $495

Pixar has announced a radical price restructuring of its RenderMan 3D and animation technology. With the upcoming version, the software will be free to non-commercial customers, and will cost $495 for individual licenses. The new version and pricing will go into effect during the time frame of SIGGRAPH 2014, the computer graphics trade show, which will take place in Vancouver from August 10-14. RenderMan, a visual effects tool for creating 3D animation and graphics for motion pictures and TV, has done this to encourage increased accessibility to the product for different kinds of users and to extend the reach of the technology. Microsoft and Salesforce.com partner to bring Salesforce platform to Windows, Windows Phone, and Office 365

Microsoft and Salesforce.com today announced a strategic partnership that will bring the latter’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) apps to Windows, Windows Phone, and Office 365. Neither disclosed terms of the deal, so it’s not clear if any money is changing hands. The two companies are planning to deliver Salesforce1 for Windows and Windows Phone 8.1 so that customers can access Salesforce and run their business from their Windows devices. The NSA has published the one email correspondence it found with whistleblower Edward Snowden as it continues to challenge his assertion that he tried raise concerns through official channels before deciding to leak the documents he had collected. Update: Snowden has responded that the NSA’s version of the story is incomplete. In an interview with NBC, Snowden said that he had reported “real problems” and was basically told, “in bureaucratic language,” to stop asking questions. Google Play will stop accepting apps using legacy AdMob on August 1, platform will be sunset on August 31

Google today announced it has completed the rollout of the new AdMob to over 200 countries and as such the Google Play store will stop accepting apps using the legacy SDK on August 1, 2014. The company will sunset legacy AdMob on August 31, 2014. Google says the following will occur on September 1 as a result of the sunset: Ads will stop serving to legacy ad units.
