Instagram has announced plans to incorporate ads in its photo feed “later this year” to subscribers in the UK, Canada and Australia. On the heels what what it considers a successful advertising debut last fall, the photo shooting, filtering, and sharing service, which launched in 2010 and was acquired by Facebook in 2012, rolled out ads in the US last November. “…since introducing ads last November, we’ve worked with a handful of top brands to draw creative inspiration from the community and create ads that were engaging and felt natural in people’s feeds,” Instagram said in its blog. “So far, our…

Aye Moah is the Chief of Product and co-founder of Baydin, an email productivity company. A few weeks after releasing Boomerang for Gmail to the world, we started receiving inquiries from our users asking how they could donate some money or “tip us” in appreciation of our hard work. We also heard from users who insisted they wouldn’t rely on a free tool as part of their email workflow — after all, free tools disappear all the time!  Around the same time, our investors and our company accountant started asking us how we planned on feeding ourselves. Putting two and two together,…

After announcing the project as part of its ‘Originals’ initiative, Microsoft today revealed a little more about one of its upcoming TV shows based on the sci-fi shooter franchise Halo. Called Halo Nightfall, this digital feature will be bundled in with every copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One. Ridley Scott is working on the project as an executive producer, while Sergio Mimica-Gezzan – known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and Heroes – directs. Little is known about the series, although the company hinted that it would focus on the new character seen in the recent Halo…

YouTube today announced plans to improve the accuracy of subscriber counts on channels starting next week. On June 16, the Google-owned company will remove suspended accounts from all channels’ subscriber counts. While this means you may notice a minor drop in your subscribers, you shouldn’t see any impact on your views or watch time since they are not active users. Once the initial update is rolled out, YouTube will use an automated system to remove suspended accounts from subscriber counts as they occur. The company says the new system is reversible in case something goes wrong and an account is…

Skype is getting a brand new iPhone app, redesigned from the ground up to create a “consistent look and feel with the Windows Phone and Android apps,” the Microsoft-owned company announced earlier today. The app isn’t live yet, and it seems the company is revealing the news today to create anticipation ahead of the launch, which will happen in “about a week.” However, it does promise it will be more than five times faster than the current version, will feature smoother scrolling and transitioning, and have synchronized notifications across all platforms – so if you read a message on your…
