Facebook is trying once again to enter the increasingly crowded ephemeral messaging app market with Slingshot, a photo sharing app. But unlike Snapchat and other services, before you can see a photo, you need to reply with a photo of your own.  The app is the social network’s second attempt to take on Snapchat. The company’s Poke app launched to much fanfare only to fizzle out quickly and get pulled from the App Store. Unlike Poke, which was pretty much a Snapchat clone, Slingshot adds another element to the mix. By forcing you to send a picture (or “sling” as Facebook…

Matthew Capala is the author of  “Away with the Average,” an NYU Professor, and Founder of SearchDecoder.com. This post originally appeared on Matthew’s Medium blog. You’ve heard this before: live-tweeting can increase your social media engagement, expand your network, build brand awareness and position you as an industry authority. The list goes on. I’ve live-tweeted every conference I’ve attended for the past couple of years. I thought I followed the best practices. I would take a picture of the panel, tag speakers, use the event #hashtag and post it on Twitter. Over the course of the conference I would get a…

Continuing our coverage of E3 2014, here’s everything that EA announced at its annual press conference on Monday. Star Wars: Battlefront EA gave attendees a look at “early in-game footage” for Star Wars: Battlefront, before promising more details in “spring 2015″ A short mini-documentary showed how developer DICE has been examining the original Lucasfilm assets and locations from the Star Wars movies to maintain authenticity in its next video game. It’s too soon to make any real comment on the game, but it shows EA is at least interested in preserving the heart of the Star Wars franchise. Dragon Age: Inquisition Dragon Age: Inquisition is…

Secret has announced an invite-only beta for its newest on-the-down-low feature, Dens. The latest addition to the app creates a company or school-wide private network of Secret postings. The Den posts have the name of your organization in the lower-left hand corner where the location or friend indicator currently resides. Secret says that the Den posts are not shareable outside of the app. But, of course a screenshot is all you…
