If you haven’t already upgraded to the latest versions of Skype’s desktop apps, you might want to soon. The Microsoft-owned VoIP service has announced that it’s going to “retire” older versions of Skype for Windows (6.13 and under ) and Mac (6.14 and under) in the coming months. The software giant has introduced a number of significant updates to Skype this year, including cross-platform message-syncing, and free group video calls, so it’s worthwhile upgrading anyway. While it’s not clear exactly what ‘retiring’ means, in terms of whether it will simply stop working or will just no longer be supported, Microsoft…

We knew it was coming, but Microsoft has just confirmed that the Surface Pro 3 is now on sale in the US and Canada. Microsoft unveiled its new PC/tablet crossbreed at an event in New York on May 20, and we reviewed it shortly after. The Pro 3 comes in 3 main flavors, featuring Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors. Path today announced the launch of Talk, a new standalone messaging app for iOS (coming later today) and Android, and the acquisition of “place messaging” service TalkTo. The company has also backed off from its exclusivity angle by removing the friend limit from its main app. When the app first launched in 2010, it was designed as a journal for your closest friends, so you could only have 50 friends. Eventually, Path increased the limit to 150 friends. Now, you social butterflies can have as many Path friends as you darn well please. The move to messaging explains how quiet Path has been this past…

Path today announced the launch of Talk, a new standalone messaging app for iOS (coming later today) and Android, and the acquisition of “place messaging” service TalkTo. The move to messaging explains how quiet Path has been this past year – the main Path app hasn’t seen many updates. The company laid the groundwork for Talk earlier this month when it began offering an ephemeral 24-hour messaging option for private messages. Talk also includes an ambient status feature, which keeps track of when you and your friends are on the move, are nearby or have low battery. In addition to…

The new buzzword in tech isn’t “pivot,” “disrupt,” or “big data” – though these are all extremely tired. Nope, it’s “hackathon.” What the heck are they really about anyway? And do developers go only to snack on free cupcakes? Every week, Vooza – a video comic strip about the tech world – shares a new video with you lovely TNW readers. Sign up for Vooza’s email list to get exclusive access to more funny videos like this one.
