Google appoints former Ford CEO Alan Mulally to its board of directors

Google announced today that former Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally has joined its board of directors. Mulally’s appointment officially began on July 9. He will serve on the company’s audit committee. Mulally led Ford from 2006 to 2014. Prior to Ford, he served as a top executive at Boeing. While the executive’s aviation and automobile experience might seem like an odd fit for a tech company, Google’s self-driving car and drone projects could benefit from Mulally’s expertise. Google offers free Udacity course to teach Android app development

Google today debuted a new resource for learning to develop Android apps: a free Udacity course called “Developing Android Apps: Android Fundamentals.” The online class is aimed at those who know programming but have no experience with building for Google’s mobile operating system. Google Developer Advocates Reto Meier, Dan Galpin, and Katherine Kuan will give you step-by-step training for how to build an Android app, as well as best practices of mobile development in general and Android development in particular. The FCC extends net neutrality public comment period until July 18

After an “overwhelming surge” of last-minute public comments on net neutrality came into the FCC, the agency has extended its period for accepting comments until midnight Eastern on Friday, July 18. The deadline originally ended later today. Update: An earlier version of this article misstated the deadline as June 18. We apologize for the mistake. If the FCC website isn’t working for you, there’s also the option of emailing comments to openinternet@fcc.gov before Friday. Dual-platform crash-reporting tool Crashlytics has announced Answers, an analytics tool for iOS and Android apps that have been deployed or are in beta. The new feature helps developers measure growth, engagement and retention. The Crashlytics dashboard tracks app data while in beta and after being launched in the Google Play and iTunes App Store.
