Google has released native iOS and Android apps for its Adwords Express ad platform, a simplified version of its full-blown Adwords platform aimed at small businesses. The launch means that Adwords Express users in the US can now manage and create ads directly from a mobile device, rather than needing to use a desktop. Alongside the app launch, Google has added new targeting options to the ad platform which allow users to choose where to promote their business based on zip code, city, state and more. Rounding off the update, Google has also tweaked the way in which keywords work…

Google has today announced that it’s opening its arsenal of Google Earth imagery to businesses for the first time. Google Earth has been getting increasingly sophisticated in the ten or so years since it launched, letting you traverse the globe using comprehensive satellite imagery as your window to the world. Now, Google Maps for Business is offering up its gargantuan library of high-res images for sale, which could prove useful for any organization that needs access to geographic snapshots, be it for environmental or landscape-planning purposes. It basically saves them having to collect this photography themselves, which is an expensive…

Jawbone has updated its UP app for UP and UP24 wristbands to provide easier food logging options and the ability to set goals for weight management and calorie intake. Available now for iOS devices, the app has an entirely new interface for logging food and meals and a separate ‘water logger’ so you can track your hydration levels easily too. The company said that as well as redesigning the logger, it now offers more comprehensive logging of food when you’re in the home and while you’re out-and-about, including access to nutritional information for well-known chain restaurants. Other notable new features include the ability to…

Daria Shualy is Don Draper/product marketer at daPulse. “Are you f***ing kidding me?” I shouted into my phone in the backyard of my favorite bistro. I was outraged, and screaming at my investor. You should never shout at your investor (or anyone, for that matter). But at this point, it really didn’t matter anymore. I had already lost my own startup and now we were just dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on our ugly divorce papers. The love was gone. From the many mistakes I made as a first-time founder and CEO, the worst was how I ill-managed my…

Siemer Ventures, one of the most active VC firms in the LA area, has rebranded itself as Wavemaker Partners in conjunction with the $45 million closing of its third fund. In addition to its Southern California investments, Wavemaker is active in Southeast Asia. The firm runs an incubator out of Singapore and will continue to focus on the region. Wavemaker hopes to increase its investments in Southeast Asia from 20 percent of Fund II to 33 percent in Fund III. Wavemaker’s previous fund raised $28 million back in 2011. The firm claims to have averaged 25-30 investments per year, mostly…
