iPods Linked To Hearing Problems
I’ve tried a number of podcast apps in the past and my favorite, by a small margin, is Pocket Casts. It’s not perfect though and Marco Arment, the founder of Instapaper and co-founder of Tumblr, is the latest to step into the fray with a minimalist iPhone app called Overcast. How it works The podcast player sports a clean design that, with a sidelong glance, could be mistaken for Instacast with its orange accents and sparse menus. Veteran podcast listeners will appreciate its on-screen instructions for how to import shows from either Pocket Casts or Instacast – it’s a basic…

Airbnb updates design and introduces controversial new Bélo logo

Jul16

Airbnb today unveiled a new flat site and mobile design and replaced its logo with something that resembles an upper-case A, amongst other things. One glaring issue is that it looks nearly identical to the logo for Automation Anywhere. The new design removes all the drop shadows from the site and mobile apps (iOS and Android) and uses a system-wide font. It’s cleaner and easier to navigate which is helpful when you’re trying to book a spare bedroom in Hawaii for your next vacation. The new logo, which Airbnb calls Bélo, is supposed to be “the universal symbol of belonging.” Sure, why not. Here’s…

Facebook today launched Ads Manager within its Android and iOS apps, as well as its mobile website. The new tool means advertisers can now manage their Facebook ads on the go. More specifically, marketers can pause or resume campaigns, edit budgets and schedules, view insights, and respond to alerts. Facebook says the new feature is rolling out globally “in the coming days,” though very slowly: all advertisers can expect to get it “by the end of the summer.” The launch comes on the same day as Google released its AdWords Express app for Android and iOS. We’re assuming this is…

Apple reaches a tentative $450 million settlement in e-book price-fixing case

Jul16
by Sindy Cator on July 16, 2014 at 6:01 pm
Posted In: Around the Web

Apple has reached a conditional agreement with the US Depart of Justice to pay $450 million to resolve claims that it colluded with five publishers to fix prices on e-books. Of the $450 million, $400 million would be dispersed to consumers. While the agreement has been reached, it’s conditional pending the ruling of the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals in New York. If the court reverses an earlier decision that Apple is liable for violating antitrust laws, it could reduce the the amount Apple has to pay or even find that Apple doesn’t have to pay anything. ➤ Apple…
