There’s good news and bad news in China today for Qualcomm, the US giant that creates chipsets for smartphones, tablets, PCs and other gadgets. First off, the good: Qualcomm has announced a new $150 million fund dedicated to startups in China. The company’s Chinese portfolio includes Xiaomi, which just unveiled its new Mi 4 smartphone this week, and Dolphin Browser, which just sold a majority 51 percent share to a Chinese games company. LG is bucking the trend of struggling Android smartphone companies like Samsung and HTC, after revealing that is shipped a record 14.5 million smartphones in the second quarter of 2014. That’s a 20 percent increase on one year previous. The company isn’t just shipping more phones, it says that mobile sales for the period were its highest since 2010, coming in at $3.51 billion.
