smartphone music headphones
Established in 2001, Rhapsody helped start the music streaming business before Spotify, Rdio, the iTunes Store and even the iPod. And while the latest services have been waging a battle of gaining subscribers via ad-supported subscriptions, Rhapsody has remained true to its original business plan of paid subscriptions only. Now over a decade later, Rhapsody is announcing that it has hit two million total international subscribers. In addition to the milestone, Rhapsody has teamed up with carriers to offer the music streaming service as a pre-loaded feature mobile phone customers. The success of that business plan has led the company to expand further in Latin…

Redmi-1
There’s more evidence of Xiaomi’s rapid growth in popularity in China, despite releasing its first smartphone only in 2011. According to data from a Kantar Worldpanel ComTech report from January to May 2014, Xiaomi unseated Apple from its second place in the country, accounting for a 21 percent share of smartphone sales, compared to Apple’s 16 percent share. In the meantime, Samsung continued to remain on top with a 23 percent share of smartphone sales — though as the figures show, Xiaomi is close behind the first ranker now as well. Kantar runs a continuous research panel of 15,000 individuals — which…

Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger has responded to the publication of a potential vulnerability on the app’s iOS version by noting that the company plans to finish upgrading to HTTPS for the entire service “soon.” Developer Stevie Graham went public with the vulnerability after Facebook failed to fix the issue. According to a Hacker News comment, Graham discovered the issue years ago and was shocked when he realized it hadn’t been fixed. The issue exposes users of the iOS app to attacks via man-in-the-middle because Instagram sends some unencrypted data with the session cookie. A malicious actor could then use those cookies to spoof the account…

Facebook is completing the separation of its main social network and its messaging service. If you want to send messages via Facebook on mobile, you’ll need to download the Facebook Messenger app soon. First reported by TechCrunch, this shouldn’t surprise anyone that uses Facebook Messenger app on iOS or Android. While messaging with a person that is still using the messaging feature in the main Facebook app, you get a pop-up to tell your friend to download Facebook Messenger app. Plus, Facebook has already separated the feature from the Facebook app in several European countries. Facebook sent TNW the following statement: In the next…
