Instagram today announced the launch of its Bolt app, but only to three countries: New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa. The new app lets you send one-tap photo and video messages to your friends. While Instagram has marked the release, the app has yet to show up on the App Store and Android in New Zealand, at least not for TNW Weekend Editor Owen Williams. Update: The app is now live in New Zealand. An Instagram spokesperson explained the limited launch as such: We decided to start small with Bolt, in just a handful of countries, to make sure we can…

Peloton releases an iPad app for streaming cycling classes on your own indoor bike

Peloton is expanding its indoor cycling regimen with the release of an iPad app that lets you stream live and on-demand classes. While Spinning remains the most well-known indoor cycling brand, Peloton entered the scene last year with a crowdfunding campaign for its bike. In April, the startup raised $10.5 million. Since Peloton’s bikes cost $2,000, the new app is an affordable alternative for folks who already have an indoor bike and have been interested in the company’s classes, which are filmed at its New York studio. You’ll get 20 credits for live classes and 4 on-demand rides to try…

This post originally appeared on the Crew blog. Have you ever felt like all you do is check your e-mail? Well, you may not spend ALL your time checking your e-mail but you do spend about 28 percent of your time doing it. That translates into about 13-hours a week or 650 hours a year of e-mail checking. For those of us who work in a job where e-mail isn’t our main responsibility, checking and responding to e-mails each day can take us away from our primary work, which results in less productivity. In fact, our incessant need to respond to e-mails at work is actually…

Apple acquires and shuts down the Swell podcasting app

Apple has confirmed its acquisition of Concept.io, the company behind the Swell talk radio app, as noted by 9to5Mac. Word of the deal leaked out earlier this week in reports from Recode and The Wall Street Journal. The Journal reporter Daisuke Wakabayashi tweeted out confirmation after receiving Apple’s boilerplate statement for small acquisitions.       The Swell website notes that the service is no longer available, and the app has been pulled from the App Store. Swell was a delightful app that used learning algorithms to serve up podcasts and talk radio. While it’s sad to see the app go, hopefully Apple…

Evernote integrates with FastPencil so you can publish your notes as a book

You know that incoherent jumble of notes you’ve been quietly working on in Evernote? Well, now it’s even easier to publish it as a book, through a new integration with self-publishing platform FastPencil. Once you’ve imported to FastPencil, you can share your work with others to get editing feedback. When you’re ready to publish, the service helps you publish on the Kindle and iBook stores or send it off to a printer for a hard copy. FastPencil claims that you can go through the whole process in “just a few clicks.” Now you have one less excuse for procrastinating on that half-written novel you’ve…
