T-Mobile today announced that it has passed up frenemy Sprint to become the largest pre-paid wireless operator in the US. The company claims to have 15.64 million pre-paid subscribers, compared to Sprint’s 15.19 million. AT&T and Verizon have 11.34 million and 6.04 million, respectively. Meanwhile, T-Mobile’s overall customer base has grown to more than 50 million. CEO John Legere tweeted that he expects his company to over take Sprint in terms of total subscribers by the end of this year. MetroPCS, which T-Mobile acquired last year, played a big part in taking the lead. The brand picked up 1.2 million new subscribers…

Twitch introduces unpopular copyright protections as it gets its affairs in order

twitch

With a supposedly imminent YouTube acquisition hanging over its head, Twitch has stepped up its legal game with a new copyright protection policy that threatens to cut large chunks of audio out of its users’ Video on Demand content. Twitch has, starting today, begun applying audio recognition from Audible Magic to check for unauthorized music or audio. If Twitch finds any music from Audible Magic clients, it will automatically mute the video in 30-minute blocks. Note, the copyright checks don’t apply to live broadcasts. The whole system sounds a lot like YouTube’s ContentID system, which has aggravated gamers for blocking…

googlenow

Google started with search and that’s what it still does best. To that end, today it updated its Google Search app for Android 4.1 with a new Chromecast feature and a way to help commuters. Commuters can now set an alarm for when it’s time to get off the bus or train — a pretty great feature for anyone who reads on public transportation or is visiting a new city. For Chromecast owners, it added a Things to Watch feature, which does exactly what you think it’ll do. It suggests things to watch on your Chromecast via a Google Now…

JustParkMini

JustPark, a service for finding and booking parking spaces, has announced that BMW Mini drivers can now find, book, pay for and navigate to a parking space using its new in-car app. According to the company, the average driver wastes 106 days of their life searching for a parking space – that’s 2,544 hours, or enough time to fly from London to New York more than 300 times – and that circling for a spot is responsible for up to 30 percent of traffic on urban streets. The in-car app has been designed to ease this congestion by providing a…

US-IT-INTERNET-PINTEREST-COMPUTERS-HOBBY

Pinterest is rolling out a traditional messaging service to its site and mobile apps, giving users an easier way to send, save and discuss Pins with one another. A massive number of technology companies have tinkered with messaging in the last 12 months (see Path, Vine and Instagram) and while those have occasionally felt quite superfluous, Pinterest is hoping its own implementation will be more complimentary and relevant to its core offering. If you’re renovating your kitchen, planning a birthday party or daydreaming about your perfect round-the-world trip,…
