Big successes start small… but what is considered ‘small’?

messy work station

Nihar Sawant is the co-founder of Expojure. This post originally appeared on his Medium blog. If you are follower of Eric Ries’s ‘Lean Startup Methodology’ then you must have heard the term ‘Minimal Viable Product.’ Before beginning with any task, it is better to start with small things rather than directly jump on the big picture. This approach not only helps you to use your resources wisely but it also helps you to save time. Joel Gascoigne of Buffer wrote a wonderful post where he said successful people start small in which he gave examples of several ventures which started as a small project and ended up…

Sony to add promised remote game sharing feature to PlayStation 4 this fall

At Gamescom today, Sony announced that version 2.0 of its PlayStation 4 software will arrive this fall. The update will bring the promised Share Play feature for letting a friend play with you remotely even if they don’t own the game. Sony highlighted game sharing at its PS4 announcement last March as one of many features enabled by its acquisition of cloud gaming service Gaikai. Share Play creates an “online local co-op experience,” so your friends can join in on your copy of NBA2K or Towerfall Ascension from their own living rooms. You can also have a friend take over…

Data doesn’t have to be ugly or boring. In fact, if Laurie Frick has her way — and it’s certain that she will — your data will be not only useful, but beautiful to look at. Laurie Frick is the creative mind behind FRICKbits, a free iPhone app under development via Kickstarter, whose algorithm takes your phone’s location data and creates an artistic pattern on your screen. This dynamic abstract art changes over time as new data is recorded — like when you go somewhere. A screen tap toggles between the actual map and the unique pattern that it generates. As an artist,…

Google’s incredibly wordy Google Play Music All Access streaming-music service is expanding to nine Central and South American countries. The new countries include: The Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Music lovers in these countries can now sign up for Google’s subscription-based music service that also includes access to a user’s uploaded music. A feature Rdio, Rhapsody and Spotify don’t offer. For users with eclectic tastes in artists that might not otherwise be available on a streaming service, Google Play Music All Access is a great way to have that music interspersed with streaming songs. ➤ Google Play

Google today announced it is implementing a new effort to thwart spammers and scammers: the open standard known as Unicode Consortium’s “Highly Restricted” specification. In short, Gmail now rejects emails from domains that use what the Unicode community has identified as potentially misleading combinations of letters. The company offers two telling examples of the practice this is meant to stop, although ironically the first doesn’t display properly on Google’s blog nor on ours (the second example is “MyBank” versus “MyBɑnk”). Thankfully, the provided image sums up the issue very well: The news today follows Google’s announcement last week that Gmail…
