Well it looks like the new CEO of Sprint, Marcelo Claure isn’t wasting any time. In a company-wide address, the new carrier boss announced new priorities for the company including reduced prices. The telecom industry site, Light Reading reports  that in a town hall call today, Claure said that the company would be announcing “very disruptive” pricing next week as part of its three new business priorities. These are: reduce prices, improve the network and decrease operational costs. Claure wants customers to think twice before signing up with a Sprint competitor. That might be good news for anyone shopping for a new carrier….

Google Chrome has supported multiple user accounts for years now, but the options to add and manage them have been buried in the browser’s settings. In fact, if you actually navigate to the proper section (Hit the menu button, choose Settings, and scroll down to “Users”) and add a few users, you can’t actually switch between them from there. Google is toying with a complete revamp of the user account system in its browser, clearly borrowing a lot from Chrome OS. In Chrome Canary (Update: and the Chrome dev channel), the following menu has shown up in the window’s title…

Airbnb today revealed its plans to focus more on hosts for the rest of 2014. Following the service’s redesign last month, the company now wants to bring new features just for hosts in the coming months. Airbnb plans to launch a program that recognizes superhosts, a follow-up to the program preview last year celebrating distinguished hosts. In response to feedback about tracking performance, hosts will also be getting new tools to better understand their performance and get hospitality recommendations. Lastly, the company is planning improvements to the calendar: the way hosts update their listings and pricing will be simplified. Overall,…

lone solo businessman

Jay Barnett is the founder of Priority Pickup, an Australia based online passenger services company that offers private chauffeur rentals to customers in Perth, Western Australia.  One of the most frequently asked questions when I go to startup events here in Perth is why I do not have a co-founder for my business. At the outset, having a business partner makes perfect sense. I am not a technology guy myself. My primary role in business is to sign up new contractors and in ensuring that my customers are happy. I would be lying if I told you that the thought of…

Apple and other smartphone makers already try to reduce screen breaks with Corning’s Gorilla Glass. But now it seems Apple’s investment in synthetic sapphire will pay off in time for the launch of the next iPhone and a new smartwatch. According to The Wall Street Journal’s sources, Apple’s use of sapphire display for the next iPhone and rumored smartwatch could drive up the price of the smartphone. According to Eric Virey, a senior analyst at French research firm Yole Développement, it’ll cost Apple $16 per phone to add a sapphire display. By comparison, the Gorilla Glass screens in today’s iPhones cost an estimated $3 per unit….
