Since its launch in 2006, Blurb, the independent publishing pioneer of print-on-demand artistic tabletop tomes and illustrated magazines, has been popular with the creative community. Blurb’s platform, which hooks into apps like Adobe InDesign and Lightroom, lets artists and photographers plus a wide variety of others, create a printed showcase for their visual works. Today, Blurb has launched an initiative aimed at bringing even more diverse publications into the marketplace for mass distribution. First, Blurb is inaugurating three new trade book sizes – 5×8, 6×9 and 8×10 – complete with lower-cost, text-weight, uncoated paper. Second, it has announced a global retail distribution collaboration with Ingram Content…

Thalmic Labs has added support for smartglasses to its Myo gesture control armband. Supported headsets include Google Glass, Recon Jet and Epson Moverio. Initial partnerships include: Augmedix, a Google Glass app for physicians; APX Labs, an app for field workers at sites like wind mills and oil refineries; and Closeout by Bridgit, software for managing construction progress. The…

Smartphones continue to grow at a fast pace in India. That’s according to the latest report from IDC, which says shipments in Q2 2014 grew 84 percent year-on-year and an impressive 11 percent quarter-on-quarter. Yet, despite those figures, there is plenty of scope for further development. IDC says feature phones accounted for a dominant 71 percent of all shipments in the last quarter, which echoes recent findings from Counterpoint Research. Like Counterpoint, IDC found that local player Micromax topped the list for smartphones and feature phones combined, but Samsung lead on smartphones.
