Google expands local inventory ads beyond the US and into the UK, France and 3 more markets

Last October, Google announced it was rolling out a couple of new local features for Google Shopping, one of which surfaced local availability for products within Product Listing Ads. For example, when you search for something on Google, you’d perhaps see an ad for a retail chain that revealed your desired item was available in-store nearby. These local inventory ads were US-only at first, but now Google is introducing them to five more markets – the UK, France, Germany, Japan and Australia. Additionally, Google says it will now let retailers highlight products that are only available in-store on desktop devices,…

FRANCE-INTERNET-TECHNOLOGY-LEWEB12

PayPal today announced partnerships with three leading Bitcoin payment processors: BitPay, Coinbase and GoCoin. The eBay-owned company wants to help digital goods merchants accept Bitcoin payments, although it is starting with those located in the US and Canada first (“We are considering expanding to other markets,” a PayPal spokesperson told TNW. “Stay tuned.”) PayPal says it chose to integrate the third-party functionality directly in the PayPal Payments Hub because the aformentioned trio already offers its customers protections when dealing with the virtual currency. The company envisions anything that can be obtained digitally, such as video games and music, being sold…

Own an Xbox One? Live in the US? Love comedy? If your answer to all three questions is yes, then you should probably check out the Comedy Central app that Microsoft announced today for its latest console. The app acts as a streaming platform for all of the channel’s most popular shows, including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, @midnight and South Park. It’s unclear exactly how much content will be available for free, however – Microsoft says US console owners who sign-in with their TV provider will have access to the “most content” inside the app. If…

Social media data service Dataminr has followed up its finance and public sector products with one built specifically for the news industry. Originally announced in partnership with Twitter and CNN earlier this year, Dataminr for News launches today for media companies in North America with an international release planned for early 2015. The product taps into Twitter’s firehose of data in order to scan for new events as they happen in real time. For instance, The New York Times reports that CNN used the service earlier this year to get the jump on a story about Justin Bieber getting arrested….

Samsung has today confirmed that it will exit the European laptop market, in a move that mirrors other device makers such as Sony. If you’re a European resident waiting to see what the next generation of Samsung Chromebooks or laptops would bring, then it’s pretty bad news, but if you live in other regions where Samsung operates then you should be just fine. “We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In Europe, we will be discontinuing sales of laptops including Chromebooks for now,” a spokesperson for the company told TNW. “This is specific to the region – and is not…
