Circa, a news reader app for Android and iOS that breaks important stories down into bite-sized chunks, has undergone a massive overhaul in terms of its design and user experience. Articles are still written by Circa’s in-house team of editors and are constructed from “atoms” that include sentences of reportage, quotes, photographs and graphics. However, almost everything else about the app has been tweaked. For starters, the navigational menu which offered streams of stories for topics such as technology and health has been removed. Instead, Circa has opted for a single feed that contains all of its news topics; to…

eBay teams up with Autobutler to launch a car repair quote comparison service in Germany

eBay has teamed up with Autobutler, a site for collecting quotes from local car garages, to launch a similar service through its online marketplace. It’s being introduced in Germany as ‘eBay Motors Werkstattportal‘ and gives drivers the ability to request quotes from three nearby businesses for car repairs and maintenance. Almost everything is handled on eBay, from submitting a problem to reviewing options and ultimately making an appointment. The final payment is made off site once the work has been completed, however. eBay is a popular choice for drivers looking to buy or sell second-hand vehicles. Offering quotes for repairs is…

passport-trio

BlackBerry today unveiled its square-screened Passport smartphone after months of leaks running up to its official unveiling. Just a couple of days ago, company CEO John Chen confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that it was due to arrive imminently and would cost $599, making it cheaper than some of its rival flagship handsets in the US. Aside from its unusual square appearance created by a 4.5-inch (1440 x 1440 resolution) display, key hardware specs include a condensed version of BlackBerry’s signature Qwerty keyboard, a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. It’ll also…

wishlist

Twitter has long been evolving as a vital cog in the global e-commerce wheel, and now Amazon is turning to the social network to make it easier to add items to your Amazon Wish List. Amazon will let Twitter users save products to their Wish List simply by replying with #AmazonWishList to any tweet that contains an Amazon product link. This move follows a similar initiative it announced back in May called #AmazonCart, which lets you add products to your actual shopping basket without leaving Twitter. While #AmazonCart was available in the UK too under the #AmazonBasket banner, it seems…

concert audience

Until recently, Eventbrite has been focusing on event creators as its main customers. Then it realized that more and more of the people going to those events are creating their own gatherings. Which is probably one of the reasons it just replaced its Entry Manager app with the more user-friendly and robust Neon. Released today, the Neon app expands the features of the rather paltry Entry Manager app with a UI that’s easier to read and has access to ticket analytics both leading up and at an event. Plus it supports entry for cash transactions and merchandise sales tracking. The app…
