Google is rolling out a new Google+ feature that allows users to add a poll to posts on the social network. It’ll first be rolling out for Android devices and on the Web “over the next few days”, before being followed closely on iOS. Once live, users should see the option to insert a poll in the post composition window and will be able to create a question with up to five choices. Images will be allowed too, Google said.  Given that Google acquired Polar specifically for this reason, it’s not a huge shock, but it’ll be a boon for Google+…

working remotely

Quip’s mobile productivity suite is a great way for teams to collaborate on documents with the ability to not only work on and chat about a document in real-time, but the ability to chat about individual elements. Until today all it was missing was spreadsheets. With the new spreadsheet, users can add spreadsheets into current documents along with check lists, photos, tables and text, or, if you prefer, you can create a stand-alone spreadsheet. Plus any links you have in the document to a spreadsheet cell are automatically updated as the spreadsheet is updated. And since Quip is all about collaboration and…

Content recommendation service StumbleUpon has today rolled out an update for its iOS app in a bid to bring a fresh look and feel to the platform. Alongside a new UI, there’s a new navigation menu to make it easier to access your likes, lists, interests and followers, and a new Activity Center that plays home to all your notifications. The company said it’s also now easier to create custom lists, and general performance enhancements should make the whole thing quicker to use. Once seen as a leading player in the social sharing and content space, StumbleUpon (alongside others like Digg) seemed…

modern living room

Beatrice Witzgall is the CEO and founder of LumiFi, a design and technology-centric company enabling people and businesses to unlock the full potential of connected lighting  The connected home and business continues to stir up vigorous debate among the tech community. Is the ‘Internet of Things’ just pie in the sky? Are ‘smart’ gadgets only for the geekiest among us, or gimmicks to fill booths at CES? Connected lighting is one aspect of this nascent ecosystem, which is a reality today. By bringing wireless multi-colored LED bulb technology to a mobile-driven world, companies such as Philips, GE, Samsung and TCP are leading the charge to…

Weather - HOT

In May last year, we brought you news on WeatherSignal, a new crowdsourced weather reporting tool. The Web and Android app came courtesy of the good folks at OpenSignal, the company that creates independent maps of mobile phone network coverage from mobile phone users. As of today, WeatherSignal is available for iPhone users too, as the company looks to ramp up its weather data-collating efforts. At the time of writing last year, the Samsung Galaxy S4 was…
