Fitbit_newmodels2
Fitbit has today lifted the wraps on three new activity and sleep tracking devices, all of which offer slightly different features depending on the intended use. The cheapest of the new trackers – and the only one available in the US from today – is the Fitbit Charge, a $130 device that allows you to track your everyday activity (steps, distance travelled, calories burned etc.) as well as see incoming call alerts. It’ll also allow for the manual logging of other workouts and users can view summaries on their Fitbit dashboard. Claimed battery life is up to seven days, and the company said…

It’s never easy for busy professionals to tame their growing email inboxes. Incoming messages demand attention through the day and wreak havoc on recipients’ schedules. Thankfully, there is a way to deal with email while maintaining your sanity, and improving your productivity too — and it’s called ActiveInbox. Built for use with Gmail and based on GTD principles, ActiveInbox lets you add actions to email messages, as well as organize them into a handy to-do list that follows a schedule you set, based on due dates and your own availability. Today, social discovery and sharing platform Shareaholic released its quarterly report detailing traffic stats from eight of its largest social media websites for Q3 of 2014. As has been the case for a while now, Facebook is the main social media source of traffic by a huge margin. In fact, Facebook still pushes over 22 percent of traffic on average. Its closest follower, Pinterest, is over four times less, at 5 percent, while Twitter is now down to less than one percent of referrals. The chart above details the changes throughout the quarter more precisely, with the two rightmost columns displaying the overall…

Amazon has today announced new hardware to help it deliver on its streaming media ambitions – the Fire TV Stick, which will go on sale from November 19 in the US. The device allows users to stream content from a range of services and will cost $39. It’s available to pre-order now, and for the next two days will cost Prime members just $19. Amazon boasts that the hardware is considerably more powerful than that of Google’s competing Chromecast dongle; the Fire TV stick includes a dual-core processor, more memory and MIMO (dual antenna) Wi-Fi. The stick also includes a remote control, which…

voicemail
To most, it would seem like common sense: if you want someone to back your business, you probably shouldn’t start by annoying them. However, Avi Zolty, Y Combinator alumni and founder of Skurt car rentals, seemed to bypass this usual thought process when trying to get the attention of angel investor Jason Calacanis. Instead, he decided to hack his voicemail and change the message to promote Skurt. Zolty also posted on Medium about the stunt (since deleted) and the audio file is available for all to hear on Soundcloud. He also posted his article to Hacker News, but it was…
