ios8_highres
Last December, we brought you news on an app called Timely, a Web and iOS-based time-tracker that promises to banish the pain of filling out timesheets and paperwork by scheduling how time will be spent in advance. Ten months on, the company claims 19,000 businesses and 35,000 individuals are using the app, “without a single dime spent on marketing,” it says. Now, Timely has been given a major overhaul. The most obvious change when you first boot the app up is the new look, which also now sports funky animations when moving from page-to-page. Digging a little deeper, with iOS…

EE has today announced that customers wanting to sign-up to its new TV service can now do so in EE retail stores. Announced last month, but not available for customers until now, the service allows users to view live and recorded programmes, and also provides a range of catch-up TV options. Additionally, there’s also a heavy focus on providing mobile access to shows via a smartphone or tablet, which makes sense given that EE is a primarily a mobile operator. The box itself has four tuners, allowing four different channels or recorded programmes to be watched at once in different rooms of your house….

Google Drive got a snazzy new Chrome extension yesterday but we sat down with the man in charge of Google’s personal file fortress, Scott Johnston, at the Web Summit in Dublin to look further into the future. With Google Drive baked into Chrome and Gmail, how long before we see Google Now-style features helping us with our files? While shying away from any concrete revelations, Johnston says a smarter Drive is certainly on the cards: “When you look at something like Google Drive in a Google Now context you should walk into a meeting and have all the files related to it…

Good news for Windows Phone users in the US – Softcard has announced it’s bringing its contactless payment technology to the mobile platform. This means that some Windows Phone users will be able to pay in-store using NFC. To recap, Softcard is a mobile payments joint venture between AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. The system is built on contactless ‘near-field communication,’ so all you need to do is tap your device on a payment terminal and be on your way. Softcard also lets you redeem offers and loyalty points in-app. To use the app, you select which of your payment cards…

OnBeep Onyx wearable
If you’re like me and find group chats in messaging services annoying, you might be interested in the latest wearable device doing the rounds: the Onyx is a small puck that clips on to your shirt for instant push-to-talk voice chat with another user, or several –- and negates the need to read or type messages on your phone. Developed by San Francisco-based startup OnBeep, the Onyx pairs with Android and iOS phones over Bluetooth and uses a data connection to enable users to chat with others in a group. Companion apps allow users to create groups to talk to…
