Facebook is today introducing a new Privacy Basics section to its site, serving up tips and how-tos to manage information on your account. There isn’t all that much new in Privacy Basics, as it’s really about making it easier to find the information that matters to you, answering FAQs about unfriending, untagging, blocking and more. UK telecoms watchdog: EE and O2 offer fastest 4G downloads, while Three lags behind

The UK telecoms regulator Ofcom has released a report looking at the performance of 3G and 4G connectivity in the UK across major operators, and has found that while EE and Vodafone deliver higher than average 4G speeds, Three is lagging behind. Released today, the report (PDF) used data from 210,000 indoor and outdoor smartphone tests in five UK cities between March and June this year. The tests, which looked at HTTP download/upload speeds, the time it took to load a standard Web page and network latency, were all carried out by experience Ofcom engineers, rather than self-submitted by users….

BSkyB rebrands to become simply Sky

BSkyB begone! The name that came into being when Sky Television merged with British Satellite Broadcasting in 1990 has finally been shelved. From now on, it’s simply Sky. With the company having completed its deal to buy Sky Italia from 21st Century Fox and snap up 57% of Sky Deutschland, “British” felt a little too parochial. Sky says it’s now “Europe’s leading entertainment group” with 20 million customers across Italy, Germany, Austria, the UK and Ireland.  It has slimmed down its name to reflect that. It’s also listing on the London Stock Exchange with the symbol SKY. The name change…

SideChef takes its Kickstarter-funded cooking app to Android

Back in August we brought you news on SideChef, the Kickstarter-funded mobile app that uses audio and visual cues to guide you through the cooking process. The hitherto iOS-only app has finally made the jump over to Android, serving up step-by-step cooking instructions from chefs, bloggers and more. YouTube for iOS gets new music dashboard and ‘Mix’ mode for auto-generated playlists

Just as YouTube revealed a new music subscription service, the Google-owned service has given its iOS app a lick of musical paint in preparation. The YouTube Mix feature has been available on desktop since last year, while the Android incarnation received the update back in April.
