OnePlus opens first retail store in China, more to come

The $349 OnePlus One might still be invite-only, but the company has started to build its own retail stores in China for those that want to buy it in person. Earlier this week, the company temporarily opened its new Beijing store for a peek; the shop isn’t due to be open to the public until December 20th. The store appears to only stock the company’s “flagship killer” OnePlus One and a number of accessories for purchase. For a company that only just got started a year ago, it’s a pretty impressive move. OnePlus is a subsidiary of Oppo, which makes smartphones for the Chinese market.…

Obama signs E-Label act so your next phone can drop the ugly logos

Your next phone might drop the ugly logos on the back altogether, with President Barack Obama officially signing the E-Label act into law today. The E-Label act means that most of those logos on the back of your phone can be displayed using software instead of on the device itself. This means that future smartphones, like the iPhone in 2016, may drop the majority of the logos on the back. Amazon Cloudfront issues causing problems for many services

If the Web looks like 1995 all over again for you today, it’s probably not just you. Intermittent issues Amazon’s Cloudfront DNS service today has caused a number of sites to experience major issues loading content. Amazon’s status page says that Cloudfront is experiencing increased error rates for DNS and that the team is investigating. The issue being related to DNS explains why large groups of users in some regions can still load content and others can’t, as DNS takes some time to roll out.
