Xiaomi faces sales ban in India till February for infringing on Ericsson patents

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has been slapped with a temporary ban on sales of its devices in India until February 5, following a rift with Ericsson over patents, reports The Times of India. The Delhi high court has passed an ex parte injunction order against Xiaomi, over eight Standard, Essential Patents (SEPs) held by Ericsson, which restricts the former from selling, advertising, manufacturing or importing devices that infringe upon these patents. Sony reportedly attempting to stop downloads of stolen data

New leaks of Sony’s confidential internal documents have been appearing daily, while the company works with the FBI in an attempt to pin down who the attacker is. Recode reports today that Sony has begun deploying methods to stop or slow down users who attempt to download its documents using peer-to-peer technology. According to the report, Sony is deploying fake “seeds” — instances of shared files — which overwhelm user’s torrent applications with fake traffic. Google News to shut down in Spain following new copyright law

A new copyright law in Spain is forcing Google to close the doors on its news product. In a post on the Google Europe blog today, the company wrote that it’s closing the service with “real sadness” ahead of the new law going into effect this January. It’ll start by removing Spanish publishers on 16 December, before closing down the whole product in that country. The new Spanish law requires publications to charge services like Google News for even showing snippets from news, even if they don’t want to charge them money.
