"Just in time for Summer 2010, there's a new game you can play anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico. It's called "Dunk Tony Hayward into the oil spill." All you do is shove the BP CEO into the crude sludge and try to measure his very, very modest impact on the environment." ~ Yasha Harari

The number of internet-connected devices is exploding but there’s still a big need for shared standards for the Internet of Things (IoT). IoTivity, an open source software framework, which has launched its Preview Release today, is one attempt to deal with that. IoTivity is hosted by The Linux Foundation and will release a reference implementation of the IoT standards defined by the Open Internet Consortium (OIC), which has more than 50 members including Intel and Samsung. The aim of the IoTivity framework is to provide a standard and open source implementation so devices and services will be able to work together…

And it’s a funny one. Save all your work, then make up a simple datasource that has a formula in the header:

SomeFormula

Now, turn the Macro Recorder on, and while it’s recording, turn that datasource into an Excel Table. (I use the Ctrl T shortcut for that)

Create Table

Excel will warn you that the formula will be converted to static values. Click No.

Continue

Beeeeep.

Restarting

Happens for me using Office 365. Pretty obscure, granted.

Apple, Adobe, Google and Intel have agreed to a new settlement deal to resolve an antitrust class action lawsuit filed against them, reports reports Recode. The lawsuit, first filed in 2011, accused the firms of limiting job mobility. The new settlement will likely total at least $380 million, according to US District Judge Lucy Koh, who is presiding over the case. Evidence of collusion between the four companies was presented in the form of emails between Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and other executives, which outlined plans to stop poaching each other’s employees. The companies involved have…

Lumia-532-group
Microsoft has today introduces two new members of its Lumia line-up, the Lumia 435 and 532. The lesser-specced of the two handsets – the Lumia 435 – offers a 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The Lumia 532 offers largely the same spec list, albeit with a quad-core, rather than dual-core, processor. Both max out at 3G connections too, and will arrive in single and dual-SIM variants. Both devices are due to start rolling out to “select countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific, India, the Middle East and Africa” in February. Pricing for the Lumia 435 will be around €69, while the…

LinkedIn is planning new tools to help you connect with colleagues

LinkedIn is planning new tools to make it easier for employers and employees to use the service together, reports Recode. While LinkedIn’s the place where people go to scout for new jobs, it’s not currently where companies and current employees go to communicate. A company representative told Recode it plans to change that with two new products. The first, which it will begin testing in the next few weeks, will enable users to send InMail – LinkedIn’s private messages – to co-workers even if they’re not connected. It’ll also encourage users to upload their contact information to a shared company database. The…
