Keren Sachs is the director of content development at Shutterstock and Offset. She has previously worked at National Geographic, Martha Stewart Living and Williams Sonoma. This post was originally published on the Shutterstock blog and has been reprinted with permission.   Originally from Turkey, New York City-based Burcu Avsar — also known as Buj — creates arresting still life photography with a narrative twist. Though she began as an advertising art producer in Turkey, Buj fell in love with the creative side of the industry and decided to make the leap to study photography at the International Center of Photography in New…

Army - VISUALISE - high res 3
The British Army’s latest recruitment drive harnesses the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to drop potential soldiers into the midst of a live fire Army Reserve exercise on Salisbury Plain. The Army is deploying the VR headset for the first time today at Waterloo Station in London. Members of the public take a seat in a Range Rover before strapping on the Oculus Rift. In the simulation, the potential recruit plays the crewman of a Challenger 2 tank, surrounded by other tanks engaging enemy positions, as well as communicating with other armored vehicles driving alongside them. The Army’s recruitment and training…

On the other hand, portable keyboards then tend to be either too small (limited by your tablet’s screen size), or too clunky to carry. A company called WayTools wants to change this with their three-piece TextBlade keyboard. The device folds to half the size of an iPhone 4 and easily fits into a pants pocket,  but the company claims you can type at full speed without trouble. The entire QWERTY layout is divided into four ‘smart keys’ per side, which feature…

If you’re longing for the days when taking a photo felt like a big deal because, frankly, each one cost you money, then you might want to check out WhiteAlbum for iPhone. In a nutshell, every photo you take using the app gets transferred straight to WhiteAlbum’s servers for printing, which means it won’t appear in your Camera Roll. The last time you’ll see your image before it lands comes your mailbox is in the viewfinder. Of course, this means there’s some importance in actually taking the time to compose a properly framed, focused and lit image, because if you don’t, you’ll just…
