Tumblr is about to get more powerful. The platform will introduce a series of new features that make it more friendly toward long-form writing – and more competitive against blogging platforms like Medium and Squarespace. The new set of tools makes writing and adding media on Tumblr more dynamic than before. You can, for instance, add an image or video anywhere simply by clicking the ⊕ symbol that appears when you stat a new line of text. The update is also meant to help you better visualize what your posts will actually look like once you publish – everything should look the same as…

Facebook shared its earnings today and revealed some interesting statistics about how its users access the social network. This quarter, half a billion users out of a total 1.39 billion accessed the social network using only a mobile device, making an increase of 26 percent year-over-year. That’s 37.8 percent of Facebook users that never log in to the desktop site. The number includes those visiting via the apps or mobile website, but excludes Instagram and WhatsApp. In total, Facebook saw 1.19 billion monthly active mobile users, an increase of 13 percent year-on-year. GoPro’s Hero4 camera is getting a new firmware update that will bring 240fps slow-motion video in high definition soon, but Gizmodo’s already got footage that shows off how good snowboarding looks in slow-mo. The firmware update brings not only slow-motion in HD, but also an upgraded time lapse feature that can record at a whopping 4K resolution. A bunch of other features, like auto-rotate for videos, are inbound too. It’s not clear when the update is coming out, but owners of the GoPro Hero4 are going to love this. Expect a bunch of people doing extreme things in slow-mo on YouTube very soon. ➤ GoPro’s Buttery Smooth…
