One of the Big Four financial auditing and business services firms, PwC, wants to lend a hand to cryptocurrency businesses and help them keep track of their blockchain transactions. In an announcement released yesterday, PwC says the addition will be made to its suite of auditing tools called Halo. The auditing firm believes it is now well-positioned to provide audit and assurance services to clients that hold and transact in cryptocurrency. At the moment, the system only works with Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, Bitcoin Diamond, Litecoin, Ethereum, Ripple, and the ERC20 token OAX. There’s no mention of more coins…

Japanese messaging company Line Corp is reportedly gearing up to launch a cryptocurrency exchange, days after fellow tech giant Facebook announced the launch of Libra. According to Bloomberg, which cites people close to the matter, Line could receive its license this month, with exchange operations expected to begin a few weeks after it gets the green light. The exchange will be called BitMax (not to be confused with long-serving exchange BitMEX) and will enable Line’s 80 million users in Japan to purchase and trade cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Link (not $LINK), the company’s token. As the home of the now-defunct Mt…

A sex toy company is suing the MTA over censorship of its NYC subway ads

On NYCs subway you’ll probably spot a few ads promoting medication for erectile dysfunction and low male libidos from companies like Hims and Roman. But you won’t see ads for Dame’s sex toys since the Metropolitan Transit Authority banned its campaign late last year — after initially approving it. Because of these double standards in advertisements, Dame, a female-founded sex toy company is suing the MTA for censoring its campaign — and this isn’t the first time ads for female sex toys have been rejected from subway spots in NYC. Earlier this year, Dame’s co-founders, Alex Fine and Janet Lieberman launched #PleasureIsHealth, a…

Bought a used Nest security cam? The previous owner can spy on you

If you are thinking about buying a used Nest cam, you may want to hold off on that purchase. According to a new report by the Wirecutter, some users who sold their Nest cam devices are able to access images from their old cameras even after performing a factory reset — only the images are those from the new owners. This effectively means those who sold Nest cams can tap into the feeds of the new owners without their knowledge. It appears that only Nest Cam Indoor devices that have been paired with a Wink Hub — a hardware device that…

Australia: Cryptocurrency unlikely for retail payments, Facebook or not

The world is still processing the specifics of Facebook‘s Libra digital currency, but even the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has realized it’s set to rub cryptocurrency purists the wrong way. In a whopping 5,800-word paper published earlier today, four RBA analysts argued there’s “little likelihood of a material take-up of cryptocurrencies for retail payments in Australia in the foreseeable future,” reports the Sydney Morning Herald via AAP. To the RBA, cryptocurrencies suffer from a “scalability trilemma,” a trade-off that inevitably sees a digital asset fail in one of three areas: scalability, security, or decentralization. “As long as the Australian dollar continues…
