Apple has let loose details of its brand new Photos app — the expected replacement for both iPhoto and Aperture. Today, the new app was bundled into a beta version of OS X 10.10.3, which Apple made available to its developers. Overall, the look is simple and uncluttered, borrowing from the iOS Photos app, the desktop iPhoto and Aperture. Heavily integrated with the iCloud Photo Library and completely re-engineered, the new Photos app is designed to let you access any photo in your collection at any time and from anywhere. An Optimize Mac Storage option facilitates storage of full resolution photos…

artboard-0-1-not-blurred
Facebook launched Mentions July of last year to allow celebrities and other “influencers”to easily keep track of interactions and share content with their fans. Today, the company is introducing the ability for celebrities to share their content on Instagram and Twitter too. Once a user makes a post to Facebook via the app, they can simply click on the menu button above the post to share onto the additional media platforms. Additionally, celebrities (or their social media managers) can now add topics they’re interested in, such as other celebrities and hashtags, to their feed. This allows them to keep track of public posts on a…

When iOS introduced support for third-party keyboards, SwiftKey – one of the most popular keyboards for Android – was quick to throw its hat into the battle for best input app. It’s been lagging a bit behind the Android version, however, so today the keyboard has been updated with new features to bring the apps closer to parity. First up, SwiftKey can now predict what emoji you want to use, using the same habit-learning algorithms it uses for text. The update includes support for over 800 emojis. iPad users are also getting a neat feature their iPhone and Android counterparts…

HonorFeat
With manufacturers showing increased attention to the the low-to-mid-range smartphone market, it’s quickly becoming a hotly contested space. One of the newer entrants in the UK is Honor, a smartphone brand backed by Huawei, but one that operates (almost) completely separately from its parent company. Its first device for the UK – the Honor 6 – only arrived in November, but yesterday saw its third launch in about as many months. We went hands-on with the £110 Honor Holly to see if it could measure up to the ever increasing competition. Design Where top of the range premium handsets now favor all-metal…
