signal-new
If you tell someone their messages and phone calls should be encrypted, you’ll probably get a glazed-over look before they tell you it’s too hard. Signal 2.0 aims to bring powerful, easy-to-use encryption to the masses. The app, which doesn’t require a login, uses your existing phone number and address book to get you started with encrypted texting and calling without a hitch. Signal says that it can’t tap into calls or read your messages because it’s end-to-end encrypted. With this new release you can message across iOS and Android (via a third-party app called TextSecure) without any fees or set up.…

Internet.org-logo
It seems like everyone is friends again when it comes to connecting the world. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg was asked by Wired’s Jessi Hempel if the company’s Internet.org initiative would ever consider partnering with Google’s Project Loon and his response was reassuring.  Sure. When we launched the Internet.org app in Zambia with our partner there…one of the apps we launched with was Google Search because search is an important product and piece of functionality that people around the world would want. I would love to do more with them, and Sundar [Pichai, Google SVP] talked about their apps being more in partnership…

Looks like today is all about Twitter video. First Meerkat got an unexpected user boost and now Twitter is offering a new embed widget for sites. Now Twitter hosted videos can be embedded into sites as easily as a Tweet. Under the same options menu (•••) that you would use to embed a Tweet is the option to embed the video. An HTML snippet appears which you copy and paste into your site. Podo’s a smartphone controlled camera that wants to kill the selfie stick

Podo lifestyle
There’s only one aspect of modern tech culture I hate more than the shrugging kaomoji (¯_(ツ)_/¯ ) and that’s selfie sticks. Which is why I was delighted to hear about Podo – a smartphone-controlled camera that could kill the damn things off. The brightly colored, remotely-activated camera can stick to pretty much any solid surface, using a combination of a suction pad that’s exposed when you rotate a flap and a strong magnet. The sucker can be cleaned with water to refresh its stickiness and the flap is replaceable for when it finally loses its grip. The camera itself hooks up to your phone to iOS and…

original
PayPal is taking mobile payments more seriously. The company today announced it has acquired Paydiant, a startup for mobile payments. Paydiant was founded in 2010, and it’s since helped brands integrate payment modules into their mobile apps. Some of its customers include Subway, Capital One, Walmart and Target. PayPal also acquired mobile payment service Venmo in 2013. Paydiant’s system is compatible with various technologies, including NFC and QR codes, which helps PayPal’s cause of expanding into the growing variety of mobile payment systems. Speaking of NFC, PayPal also announced that its Here card reader for mobile payments will soon support the wireless payment technology. As…
