"Assad, Gaddafi and Sallah are rebuking the lesson learned by Ben-Ali, Mubarak and Gbagbo. And that lesson is, you can't crush your own people and at the same time be a puppet of the U.S., but you can crush your people if you play along with Obama's half-baked foreign policy." ~ Yasha Harari

Apple’s new Photos app launched last month to developers for testing, but many were left disappointed as it was only available to try for those that had paid the $99/year fee to be a developer. Today, Apple has made new preview of Photos for Mac available via the public beta channel of Yosemite. Those who have signed up to download public beta builds can update to OS X 10.10.3 now and try the new photo-organizing app. It’s important to bear in mind that Photos for Mac is still in beta mode and may contain fairly large bugs, but it seems solid…

google gdc
Appropriately announced at today’s Game Developer Conference 2015, Google unveiled updates for developers on its Google Play Games platform, with a focus on more effective audience targeting. Coming to Google Play Developer Console in a few weeks, the new Player Analytics tool is designed to give developers reports of sessions, average spending patterns and how players are progressing through the games. Developers can also set a daily revenue goal and use these reports to help boost in-app purchases or add features as needed. Greg Hartrell, Senior Product Manager of Google Play Games, says the tool will help developers create realistic benchmarks, and better understand revenue…

android tv gaming
At Game Developers Conference 2015 today, Google announced Nearby Connections, a new API that will allow developers on the Google Play platform to incorporate multiple smartphones and tablets as second-screen game controllers on Android TV. Previously, Android TVs only supported second-screen controllers for solo play. To enable connection on this protocol, gamers can sync their mobile devices with an Android TV from the same Wi-Fi network and use their phones or tablets as controllers for multi-player games. Greg Hartrell, Senior Product Manager of Google Play Games, tells us that Nearby Connections is intended to promote multi-player gaming without the hassle of requiring single-purpose game controllers. By taking advantage of…

meerkatstream
Well, that didn’t take long. After a viral growth spurt in its user numbers yesterday, live video streaming service Meerkat has now been handicapped by Twitter. Hi @dickc! today @ 6:30am @twitter blocked all outgoing tweets posted via @appmeerkat even though we work well within the Api -any idea why? — Ben Rubin (@benrbn) March 2, 2015 Users are finding the Meerkat app is no longer automatically tweeting out new streams or comments posted on these streams. The block essentially removes everything that made the app so convenient, and could potentially put a stop to its recent growth. To recap, Meerkat allows users to easily…

A screenshort is a screengrab of an article posted to twitter to get around the service’s 140-character limit. You find an article you like (or hate) you take a screenshot of the passage or sentence you find intriguing (or infuriating) and share it to Twitter. The OneShot app takes those snippets of an article and really lets you up your content sharing game. The free iOS app scans your photo library for any screengrabs you’ve made with your iPhone. You pick the screengrab you like and you can crop the image down to the section you want to share and…
