"Alvin Greene, South Carolina's Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2010, is driving the state's party crazy, by doing what BP's CEO did on Capitol Hill on June 17: Saying very little and letting the politicians hang themselves by their own foolishness." ~ Yasha Harari

Babble will help you stop using Lorem Ipsum in your designs

A tiny new OS X app wants to help you stop using Lorem Ipsum in your designs. Much has been written about how Lorem Ipsum is killing your designs and why not to use it, so this app will help you break the habit. Babble lives in your menu bar and generates… well, babble. It’s got a bunch of powerful options like generating a bunch of random single words or entire paragraphs and can be extended to deeply integrate into other apps. At the touch of a button or a quick keyboard shortcut, you’ll get useful (and weird) filler text like…

simcity
Sad news, fans of Maxis’ simulation games: EA today suddenly closed Maxis’ Emeryville office. The company was behind many popular games like the latest ‘SimCity’, ‘Spore’ and even ‘The Sims’. In a statement to Polygon today, EA said that the changes “do not impact our plans for The Sims” as it is “consolidating Maxis IP development” to other studios and other DLC is still on track for the recently released Sims 4. Guillaume Pierre, lead gameplay scripter and designer for ‘SimCity’ and long-time Maxis employee, tweeted the sad news. Well it was a fun 12 years, but it's time to turn…

01_Xbox One_HBO GO Home
If you’re a cord-cutter that likes ‘Game of Thrones’ you’re about to get really excited. International Business Times reports that HBO will be launching its stand-alone streaming service HBO Now in April for $15 a month. IBT also reports that Apple will be a launch partner which should makes owners of the Apple TV very excited. The $15 monthly fee will be paid directly to HBO and is on par with what most pay-TV subscribers shell out to cable and satellite TV providers like Comcast. HBO hasn’t confirmed a date or price, but launching before the premiere of one of its…

The real reason why Net Neutrality matters

FCC Riles Oliver Stone to Jello Biafra on Web Fast-Lane Vote
Roger Huang is an entrepreneur who is working on his next venture, and advising several others on growth. This post originally appeared on Code(Love). A lot of people think the core of Net Neutrality is site speed: the amount of time information is served to users. They’re partially right, but there’s a fundamental flaw in keeping the explanation to just those confines. The Internet at its core is a bunch of servers (computers up 24/7) that receive HTTP requests from clients: your web browser or mine. The whole point of the Internet is that it abstracts away physical location so that you…

Nacho Time is Popcorn Time for your browser and it’s already in trouble

nachotime
Let’s say you own all the movies you’ve been watching via movie torrenting streamer Popcorn Time. Or maybe you live in a country where the copyright laws are pretty lax when it comes to streaming TV shows and movies without the express consent of the copyright holder. While the legality of the service is, at best, shaky, there’s no denying that the desktop and mobile apps are impressive. But, now there’s a new movie streaming challenger and this one doesn’t even require an app. Nacho Time (mmm, nachos!), does the same thing as Popcorn Time (skirt the law and allow you…
