WhoIsHappy
The move towards legalizing cannabis usage in various US states and other countries – or at least decriminalizing it – has led to the growth of a few niche services for ‘tokers’ and medicinal users of the little green leaf. One such app, launching today in the US, is Who is Happy, which lets you broadcast your general location each time you smoke cannabis in a bid to show solidarity with other users around the world. In essence, all it allows you to do is monitor your own ‘happiness’ statistics, and those of your country. You can also compare the…

Torrent-streaming platform Popcorn Time has been causing headaches for the movie and TV industries ever since it emerged early last year. While the project’s original developers stopped working on it after legal pressure, it was swiftly forked by a number of new teams that have kept it up and running. While Popcorn Time has been available on Android for some time, it’s now arrived on iOS with an installer that can put the app on non-jailbroken devices. It’s likely that it uses a test key from an enterprise device to achieve that. The new development could cause serious headaches for both…

Social media management firm Sprinklr has announced today that it has acquired GetSatisfaction – an online community platform used to connect customers and companies. The terms of the deal have not been made public. Sprinklr has added four other companies to its portfolio in the past 14 months as it expands on its cloud experiences – Pluck, Branderati, Dachis Group and Facebook ad optimization platform TBG Digital. The company also recently announced a new funding round of $46 million, as well as its new Experience Cloud Initiative. Sprinklr is now classed as a tech ‘unicorn’ as it is valued at more than $1…

blogging secrets
Paul Jarvis is a best-selling author and designer. He writes weekly for his popular newsletter and runs an online course on becoming a better freelancer. I write for and in a lot of places. There’s my mailing list, my website, publications that require exclusive content, and even a few where my writing is regularly syndicated. Typically, although it seems like more, I write one article per week, and I write it with my mailing list in mind. Because (last time I checked), I’m only one person with no assistant or help, I need for everything I do to be streamlined and quick.…

oyster book
Book subscription app Oyster today announced that it is launching an e-book store, going against the likes of Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Apple and Google. The Oyster e-book store means that you no longer have to subscribe to the service’s $9.99 monthly fee for access to e-books across the Web. Some of the partner publishers include Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster. While it’s probably more economical to subscribe if you love to explore different titles, the store does give readers an alternative e-reader app that’s beautifully designed for your mobile device. The e-book market is starting to get pretty saturated, so…
