Apple CEO Tim Cook gave an excellent commencement speech to the 2015 graduating class at George Washington University this weekend. While it includes some powerful points – meeting segregationist governor George Wallace, Cook’s youthful admiration for Martin Luther King Jr. and RFK, the importance of accessibility and positive action – there’s also a cheeky plug for the iPhone: They asked me to make a standard announcement – you’ve heard this before – about silencing your phones. Those of you with an iPhone, just place it in Silent Mode. If you don’t have an iPhone, please pass it to the center aisle,…

Meizu M1 Note
After Xiaomi and OnePlus, Meizu is the next major smartphone manufacturer from China to enter the Indian market. It’s kicking off operations in the country with its M1 Note Android phone, that goes on sale on Amazon India this Wednesday. Oddly, Meizu hasn’t revealed the M1 Note’s price yet. The 5.5-inch Android KitKat 4G dual-SIM device launched last December generally sells for about $220, which means it’ll likely see competition from the similarly-sized $170 Honor 4X and Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4G. The M1 Note will be available on May 20 at 2PM IST, no invite necessary. ➤ Meizu

Coca-Cola-uses-Animation-QR-Code
It’s not every day you hear of a major company getting excited about QR codes. Alibaba has announced that it’s working with Israeli startup Visualead to add dotless QR codes to products sold on its site under a new “blue stars” program, in an attempt to help prove their authenticity. The company will work with major brands like L’Oréal to add the QR codes directly to their products, which can be scanned with Alibaba’s Taobao app to verify if they’re real or not. Brands will be able to heavily customize the codes with imagery and colors without breaking the functionality. Alibaba is often…
