Facebook_featured
Facebook’s artificial intelligence (AI) research has expanded to Europe. The company has just announced that it’s starting a team based in Paris to work alongside existing efforts at its Menlo Park and New York offices. The AI team in France will work on the same kind of projects – including image recognition, natural language processing and speech recognition – as their colleagues in the US. In the post announcing the move, Facebook says it hopes that the “research will ultimately help…make services like News Feed, photos and search better” and that Paris was chosen because it is “home to some of…

Kamcord
Kamcord has launched its Android app that lets you record in-game footage from any title on your device, provided you’re running Lollipop. The company’s technology previously required game developers to integrate it into their releases, but the app now works with any title. You can add sound and record your voice to include in your videos. The app lets you share your creations with Kamcord’s community and also lets you watch videos made by other users. Kamcord says it’s working on title-agnostic recording for iOS and support for live-streaming mobile game footage. ➤ Kamcord [Android | iOS] (via VentureBeat) Read next: Twitch…

Pirate Bay co-founder Frederik Neij was released from prison in Sweden yesterday. He is the last of the site’s co-founders to serve a custodial sentence. TorrentFreak reported the news, saying a member of Neji’s family had told it that he was enjoying his freedom. The source also provided photos of him relaxing at home. Neij was convicted in 2012 and sentenced to jail in November 2014 for his part in running The Pirate Bay. He was apprehended by police in Thailand after trying to illegally cross a border before being deported to Sweden, where he spent two thirds of his 10…

You might not visit AOL.com much, but a lot of people still do. While brands like Engadget, TechCrunch and The Huffington Post are more frequently discussed, it’s still a monster. According to comScore, the site had 31.3 million unique views in April 2015, and it’s just revealed a radical redesign in the hopes of pushing those numbers even higher. One of the biggest reasons quoted for Verizon’s recent acquisition of AOL was betting on the company’s video ad tech. Video is also at the heart of the strategy for AOL.com with a 93.8 percent growth in views between April 2014 and…

Video makers have been able to offer their creations for sale or rent through Vimeo On Demand since 2013. Now, the video platform has introduced a recurring monthly subscription option. Vimeo’s new tools allow creators to offer worldwide subscriptions to their content or apply geographic restrictions to cover specific countries or regions. Subscriptions can be purchased through Vimeo’s On Demand store, its publisher network and on any website using the service’s embeddable player. Makers can also offer free trials or giveaway episodes, and release exclusive ‘subscribers-only’ bonus material. The company hopes that its subscription video on demand (SVOD) package will lure creators away from…
