"Assad, Gaddafi and Sallah are rebuking the lesson learned by Ben-Ali, Mubarak and Gbagbo. And that lesson is, you can't crush your own people and at the same time be a puppet of the U.S., but you can crush your people if you play along with Obama's half-baked foreign policy." ~ Yasha Harari

Straw update lets you create polls and broadcast them to the world from your phone

Straw, the polling app that makes it easy to quickly create polls from your phone, is getting a big update today that adds the ability to broadcast your polls to the world.

The new feature, dubbed StrawCast, will send your newly created poll to everyone who has the app installed, as well as publicly on the Strawcast Twitter feed. The company is also adding a new discovery feed to the app so you’ll be shown random public polls that you can vote on.

It’s being touted as a way to get “troll-free” input from a wider group of people, because they can’t leave comments, only vote.

Straw was built by a group of friends in their spare time and first launched in 2014 on iOS, Windows Phone and Android.

Today’s update, which is available for all three platforms at the same time, also includes a design overhaul as well as a number of other new features. The update adds the ability to embed polls on websites, make results private and edit polls in real-time.

Dropbox for Android gets Material Design and space-saving direct photo uploads

dropbox-for-android-3-0-1

Dropbox for Android is finally getting a Material Design makeover today, as well as some new features to make the app easier to use.

First off, Dropbox has added a floating action button to folders that allows you to take photos that are saved right into that directory location, making sharing new images with friends and coworkers a more seamless experience. These photos don’t go onto your phone’s storage either, so you save some space on your camera roll.

A new search icon in the top menu to help you find documents more quickly – or even search within a document as well.

Dropbox is also putting all your file and folder controls – including sharing, favoriting, moving and renaming – on the new info pane, which will also provide more information such as modification dates and shared folder members.

Finally, a new time-saving feature: you can also now just swipe left or right to browse through your folders.

The new Dropbox for Android is rolling out to the Play Store over the next few days.

Tidal’s second CEO pushed out the door after just two months

tidal

The waters are looking rough for Tidal, with its interim CEO, Peter Tonstad, let go by the company this week.

Tonstad had taken on the role of ‘interim CEO’ a little over two months ago but has now reportedly been pushed out.

Also, The Wall Street Journal says that the company “will be run by executives in New York and Oslo until a new chief is in place.”

Tidal’s previous CEO, Andy Chen, left the company in April abruptly just after it launched to the public.

Despite the music service’s exclusives from artists like Madonna and Nicki Minaj, the service has failed to gain traction and faces increasing competition with Apple Music launching next week.
