The likes of Angry Birds and Game of Life are some of the most popular games in the world. If you would like to create the Next Big Thing in mobile gaming, this free course is for you. The best way to learn development is with hands-on experience, which is exactly what the iOS Games Hacking Course provides. The eight-week curriculum teaches you how to work with Objective-C, Xcode, and SpriteBuilder, by asking you to create clones of games such as Flappy Bird. Of course, there is step-by-step tuition to help you do this, and no assumptions are made about…

tidal
To help its service stand out in a crowded streaming music market, Tidal is introducing a family plan. Rather than group your whole family into one plan, Tidal is giving each new member a discount. Here’s how it works: one member (the family leader, so to speak) will have either the $9.99 Premium plan or the $19.99 HiFi plan. Any additional members registered to your family plan will get a 50 percent discount on their chosen plan. Tidal tells us the plans are interchangeable, too. You could have a $9.99 premium plan and add a HiFi plan at 50 percent…

This post was brought to you by desk.com the fast, awesome customer service app for small business.

When something breaks, the first thought is usually some inappropriate words and then an encroaching anxiety of making time to call or Web chat with customer service. That is, unless there is a viable solution you can manage on your own accord. Cue the art of self-service. This is the practice of propping up the customer with research, information and tools to fix issues for themselves. Detecon Consulting surveyed customers and managers across five different industries—public transportation, banking, e-commerce, telecommunications and energy—to conclude that 78 percent of those surveyed embrace customer self-service; 60 percent of those surveyed said the ability…

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a memo to all staff in late June that the company needed to make some “tough choices” in areas that aren’t working. Now, it’s announced that 7,800 jobs will be cut from the mobile division. Satya Nadella said in an email to all staff: “We are moving from a strategy to grow a standalone phone business to a strategy to grow and create a vibrant Windows ecosystem including our first-party device family,” Nadella said. “In the near-term, we’ll run a more effective and focused phone portfolio while retaining capability for long-term reinvention in mobility.” The news follows Microsoft…

Popular iOS and Android keyboard Fleksy has gone free forever and will instead charge for in-app add-ons. The new Fleksy is free to download for both iOS and Android and has offered theme and “extension slots” for purchase since late 2014 to monetize its keyboard. This update also brings a new “highlights” view that helps you discover stickers and GIFs in a single place rather than on separate pages. If you’d previously purchased Fleksy, you’ll get $8 of credits to download themes and extensions. Free keyboards featuring in-app purchases is the popular way to monetize now, with SwiftKey and Themeboard using similar…
