The Bowers & Wilkins Formation Duo might actually justify their $4,000 price

As a general rule, audiophiles are skeptical of wireless audio. Despite a few popular models like the KEF LSX, audio enthusiasts have met wireless speakers with some apprehension given the technology typically degrades sound quality at least a little, and almost always introduces latency. It runs counter to the audiophile’s stereotypical desire for ‘purity.’ But then this past April, the venerable audio company Bowers & Wilkins announced its Formation suite of wireless speakers. Using custom-made wireless technology, it set out to prove latency and signal degradation needn’t afflict wireless speakers. The subject of today’s review is the Formation Duo, the…

Everything Google revealed about Stadia during the Reddit AMA

Stadia, Google’s attempt to enter the gaming industry via the cloud, has been teased several times through the last few months. Yesterday, we learned more about the platform via a Reddit AMA — and while it’s not all good news, it’s not all bad either. The person answering the questions was Andrey Doronichev, Stadia’s Director of Product. Like anyone attempting to hype a new product, he was bright and enthusiastic, but overall the picture he painted of Stadia came across as fairly grounded. He was quick to say it’s not a “Netflix for games,” and said the Stadia Base (the…

Satoshi Nakamoto left Bitcoin because of the CIA, a theory

Welcome to Hard Fork Basics, a collection of tips, tricks, guides, and info to keep you up to date in the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency world. Bitcoin‘s pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto has been noticeably absent for most of its existence. There’s been many attempts to reveal their true identity, but the reason for their sudden disappearance in 2011 is just as curious. While Nakamoto was still active in Bitcoin development, they mostly kept contact with the outside world with forum posts, emails, and IRC channels. Archives of Nakamoto’s communications can be found here. The thing is, whoever maintained the Nakamoto moniker never actually…

Google used 107,000 solar panels to create a portrait of Apollo 11 pioneer Margaret Hamilton

Posted In: Around the Web, Google, Shareables

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of NASA’s historic moon landing mission, Google built a massive portrait of Apollo 11 software lead Margaret Hamilton using only solar panels and the reflection of the moon. The impressive art installation, which was set up in the Ivanpah Solar Facility in the Mojave Desert, used a total of 107,000 solar mirrors to illustrate Hamilton. The portrait is bigger than New York City’s Central Park spanning 3.6 square kilometers (1.4 square miles). When turned, the solar mirrors illuminate the face of Hamilton, along with an image of a moon drone. For those out of…

Australian retirees lose their $900,000 pension fund in cryptocurrency scam

A retired couple in Australia have reportedly lost $900,000 to an elaborate cryptocurrency scam.  Mike and Karen Taylor were traveling around Australia in a camper van when they fell for the online scam. The cryptocurrency website they used looked legitimate, Taylor told 7News. It’s not clear how the scam operated, but presumably, the couple invested money on the website enticed by the promise of high returns. Eventually the couple invested a total of $900,000 drawing on their pension program. In a matter of months it had all disappeared, with no return. “That was the whole of our superannuation – that’s…
