WhatsApp’s payment program has been stuck in the testing phase in India for quite a while now. But, the wait might finally be over. The company‘s global head, Will Cathcart, said the UPI-based payment service will officially launch in the country by the end of 2019. Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Cathcart said, “to boost digital inclusion in India, we can launch the (Pay) service across the country later this year after meeting regulations.” Last February the company started testing the service and in June, it said the test had a million users. After the test launch, Vijay Shekhar…

The best way to make money out of Libra? Put a bet on it not launching on time

Facebook’s digital currency Libra is looking less and less likely to launch next year as originally planned. Policy expert, Angela Walch from University College London’s Centre for Blockchain Technologies told Quartz: “The odds that Libra receives regulatory approval anytime soon (ie, in the next six-12 months) are quite low.” “This is such a massive proposal, with immediate global scale and consequences,” she added. Indeed, over the last few weeks Libra has come under much scrutiny and is now looking like it’s been dragged through a hedge backwards. Last week, Facebook‘s head of Calibra, David Marcus, was given a grilling by…

Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! Listen, do you have a new(-ish) phone? And do you use a… cable to charge it? God, I hope not. I truly wish upon whatever deity you or your loved ones hold dear that you’re not stranded in 2010 and are using a wire.  Why? Well, two reasons. The first, I’m just that kinda guy — caring, affectionate, and genuinely concerned about your well-being. Secondly, wireless charging is everywhere and, really, you should be using it. Shock! Horror! There’s currently a great deal on a…

TRON’s Justin Sun confirms he’s a ‘big-mouthed over-marketer’ in Warren Buffett lunch apology

Jul25
by Sindy Cator on July 25, 2019 at 10:22 am

Justin Sun, the founder of cryptocurrency platform TRON, has issued a public apology after postponing a highly publicized charity lunch with billionaire Warren Buffett. And it seems Sun is finally becoming aware of his “over-marketed hype.” Sun issued an apology earlier today saying he “sincerely apologizes to the public, the medial, officials, and regulatory authorities,” for over hamming his marketing of the charity lunch, CoinDesk reports. The TRON founder referred to himself as “immature, naive, and impulsive,” and as having a “big mouth.” He says this spurred on “out-of-control and failed over-marketing hype and led to a significant series of unexpected consequences.” One report…
