Equifax probably owes you $125. Here’s how to collect

TNW recently reported the US Federal Trade Commision (FTC) had passed down a rather friendly little fine to Equifax – just $700 million dollars for exposing the private financial data of more than half of all US citizens. We also mentioned that Equifax was going to be shelling out checks to those affected and today’s the day you can file your claim. Equifax dropped the ball in the summer of 2017 when as many as 147 million people were put at risk for identity theft after a preventable breach exposed their private data. Amazingly, the company’s CEO just said screw it and quit…

Review: Chuwi’s Hipad LTE is a great budget-friendly tablet for writers

Jul26

Chuwi’s Hipad LTE tablet took me by surprise. I’m not a big fan of ‘phablets’ to begin with. And when I saw it only cost $159 I was certain this slab would be a hot mess. Marcus Hutchins, the hero who helped stop the WannaCry ransomware attack which crippled much of Western Europe, including the NHS’ computer systems, isn’t going to jail. At a sentencing heading in Milwaukee, a federal judge sentenced the British security expert to time served. He was also given one year of supervised release, although he is free to return to the United Kingdom. No fines were imposed. Sentenced to time served! Incredibly thankful for the understanding and leniency of the judge, the wonderful character letter you all sent, and everyone who helped me through the past two years, both financially and…

WhatsApp could become more like iMessage with multi-platform support

WhatsApp is the world’s most popular messaging service, with over 1.5 billion monthly users, but it’s always had one annoying limitation: you need your cellphone to use it. Sure, you could sign onto the Web or desktop app and access most of the service’s features, but it requires your phone be on and connected to the internet at all times, and it only works on one device at a time. There’s a sign this is changing. According to WhatsApp leaks site WABetaInfo, the messaging app is working on a new platform that will allow for greater interoperability between devices. WABetaInfo…
