Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! There are a whole load of good Android phones out there, but there aren’t many great ones. In that category (which we’ve discussed before) there are a handful of companies making top class devices: Samsung are one. And another? Google. The tech giant’s Pixel phones are some of the best on the market, with the Pixel 3 getting strong reviews across the board. Hell, we’re big fans of the devices. So, if you’ve been holding out on picking up a Google Pixel 3, your wait…

Facebook, stop trying to make Libra happen

Just when we thought Facebook’s Libra couldn’t be subject to any more scrutiny, it turns out that data protection bosses from all over the world have banded together to share concerns about the ‘cryptocurrency’s’ potential privacy risks. Data officers from the UK, European Union, US, Canada, Burkina Faso, and Australia issued a joint statement on Monday, noting that “while Facebook and Calibra have made broad public statements about privacy, they have failed to specifically address the information handling practices that will be in place to secure and protect personal information.” “The involvement of Facebook Inc. as a founding member of the…

As long as cryptocurrency has value, people will try to steal it. According to the latest figures from cybersecurity firm Avast, a cryptocurrency stealing malware has been blocked more than 360,000 times by its software. The malware, named Clipsa, is described by Avast as a “multipurpose password stealer.” It exploits numerous attack vectors to steal or illicitly mine cryptocurrency. Avast says the malware can replace cryptocurrency addresses in an infected system’s clipboard to redirect funds away from their intended destination and toward wallets owned by hackers. More than just theft Several versions of Clipsa have also been recorded to deploy…

Posted In: Apps, Around the Web

Despite all the flak it caught for its revamped look, I tried giving Twitter‘s new design a fair shake. The updated layout is supposedly faster, more intuitive, and easier to customize – and for the most part, it is. But as much as I wanted to dig the redesign, there’s one aspect that truly ruffles my feathers: the new tweet embed UI. It’s unnecessarily complicated, significantly less convenient to use, and, quite frankly, the antithesis of intuitive. For those unfamiliar with the embed UI, the feature is particularly useful if you want to include Twitter replies in a blog post,…
