Welcome to CHEAP, our series about things that are good, but most of all, cheap. CHEAP! It’s that time of the year: everyone is regurgitating the old headphone jack debate after Samsung ditched the port with its new Galaxy Note 10 series. But you know what? You can once and for all quit whining about the inevitability of this trend with a sweet deal on Anker‘s Soundcore Liberty Neo wireless earbuds. That’s right. Amazon currently has a 33-percent discount on the Liberty Neos, which means you can cop a pair for just $40 bucks (down from the original list price…

Blockstream takes on Bitmain with new Bitcoin mining centers (and it’s already getting flak)

Blockstream, the blockchain infrastructure firm that sent a Bitcoin satellite into space, has entered the cryptocurrency mining space. The company revealed details about its Bitcoin mining data centers in Quebec, Canada and Adel, Georgia earlier this week. Currently, Blockstream is working with customers including Fidelity Center for Applied Technology and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. However, it is looking to open up the facilities to smaller-scale miners sometime in the future. “We began our Bitcoin mining operations back in 2017 motivated by widespread concern that mining decentralization was declining. At the time it appeared that parties involved in ASIC manufacture, hosting, and pool…

Regulators in Texas have filed a cease and desist order against a New York-based cryptocurrency business promising a 900-percent return on investment in just two weeks. Forex and Bitcoin Trader, which was advertising on Craiglist Dallas, reportedly deals in cryptocurrency investments, commodity-based derivatives, and foreign currency trading. A statement published earlier this week said the company claimed a $2,000 investment would see returns of $20,000, not including the 10 percent fees charged by the platform. The order says Forex and Bitcoin Trader was misleading investors by claiming it had an insurance policy that backed client funds and a balance sheet with…

Researchers break iPhone’s FaceID by putting modified glasses on unconscious people

Security researchers have cracked Apple’s FaceID biometric system yet again. But there’s an unusual caveat to this trick: to successfully unlock an iPhone, the attackers first need to make sure the victim is out cold. Tencent researchers demonstrated the exploit vector at Black Hat USA 2019, Threatpost reports. The attack involves putting a pair of modified glasses on the victim’s face. That, coupled with carefully placing a piece of tape over the glasses’ lenses, makes it possible to circumvent FaceID and log into a victim’s iPhone. Of course, the exploit is fairly difficult to pull off considering the attackers would need…

8 ways small businesses can tap into 3D printing

Aug09

3D printing, while still a developing technology, has immense potential for helping small businesses. From creating custom items to marketing and design, 3D printing offers a number of benefits in terms of efficiency and establishing connections that make the purchase of a 3D printer viable. To find out what small businesses can do to efficiently leverage 3D printing services — and what challenges teams may face when doing so — I asked a panel of YEC entrepreneurs the following: What is one thing small businesses could be doing to tap into 3D printing? Why would this approach be effective? What…
